Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) retired General Muhammadu Buhari if elected he would end Boko Haram insurgency like he ended the Maitatsine crisis in the 1980s.
Buhari disclosed this in a video of his meeting with youth volunteers in Lagos released yesterday.
In the video, Buhari spoke on issues ranging from the economy, stabilizing the naira, politics and his stewardship at the Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF).
He also repeated his call for peaceful elections and for citizens to protect their votes. He spoke about how his regime’s success in fighting domestic terrorism.
He reiterated his decisiveness in dealing with enemies of the Nigerian state, recounting an episode when Chadian troops killed Nigerian soldiers, during the regime of Hissene Habré. This was despite the fact that Nigeria was giving petroleum products to Chad at that time.
“Unfortunately for him, (Habré) those Nigerian soldiers were under me,” Buhari said, to laughter from the audience.
Speaking on Maitatsine crisis, the former head of state, recounted how the problem recurring after the leader of the group was first exiled by the then Emir of Kano, then returned and was killed by the police.
When the group resurrected in Adamawa, Buhari said: “I flew into Adamawa as head of state, and that was the last you heard of Maitatsine.”
In the video Buhari took his time to explain his role in events like Nigeria’s observer status in the OIC, the so-called $2.8 billion ‘missing’ funds during his time at the NNPC, his time at the PTF, the famous 53 suitcases, among others.

That is a visionary, fearless and real leader, man and sane person.
The bolded says it all unlike our ball-less Mr. Clueless who hid under PEJ wrapper. They even denied that 200 girls were kidnapped by BH. See how government mumu reach.
May we never see evil again!!!

The key information isn't contained here.
How did he end it using his military experience in a military regime? The details.
So we can see if we can draw out a solution using a democratic experience in a democratic regime.
Using military experience in a democratic regime spells out 'Odi 1999'
***MODIFIED***
Let me remind you of Odi town. Sometime in November, 1999, under the regime of Obasanjo, a military head of state turned president, about 12 policemen were killed by an armed gang based in that town.
The FG gave 2 weeks for the town to fish out the culprits, but before that time could elapse, Obasanjo, the General Commander of the armed forces allegedly ordered the invasion.
The entire town was burned down and civilians murdered in retaliation. The government put the death toll at 43+ but witnesses and activits put the figure at hundreds. Every indigene of that town were displaced; men, women and children, not to mention the molestation of women and girls by the soldiers.

The FG paid the price for their folly, being ordered to pay ₦37bn compensation for the insensitive attack and violation of human rights.

That's why when I see people clamouring for GEJ to open fire on BH despite their modus operandi to keep numerous hostages and play amongst civilians, I wonder if they understand 'democracy'.

How did he lead by example?
What and what did he do when?
Isn't that the title of your thread?
We're here for that information.
Where is it?
If we also have to obtain that information from the Nigerian Army records offices, just say so.

You dont sit inside AC eating 517 Million naira food annually while telling your starving soldiers to go and fight some lunatics without ammunition. You lead from the front in situations like this in order to motivate your men. This is what Buhari did. They did not employ civilian JTF or Local hunters. It was simply leadership!. Secondly he did not deny that we have a problem of terrorism then, it was publicized and effectively dealt with unlike your oga @ the top that was saying BH were cultists, armed robbers etc. He even denied that 200 girls were kidnapped until after 3 weeks.

I am not clueless like your Ball-less Mr. clueless (PhD) to read. You can go to the Army records to know which war tactics and strategies were adopted!!!!

Please someone should ask about the role that was play by the Nigerian police anti riot force play in this maitatsine menace, what about the gallant officers of the Nigerian police force ( mobile police and special standby squad ) who single handed drove this people to chad and surrounding their underground camp or base then.

In the wee hour before the attack, the mopol were given a surprise of their life when the maitatsine infiltrated and started hacking them to death if not for the alertness of the O.C mopol who woke up and started blewing his whistle and they retreated.

They were mocked by the Nigeria army and made ridicule off, do you know what happened to the Nigeria army, they suffered more casualty than the mopol ( popularly known as kill and go ) retreating. It was only a joint operation between the army, police and airforce that they were able to over power and subdued the group.

Now if he is claiming the glory not bad but he should be man enough and tell Nigerians what transpired? The Nigerian police force need to be given credit too.

Its just a pity, we have historians but only in name if not Nigeria would have developed more than this.
