MACAULAY SAYS GOVERNMENT WILL COMPLETE ALL ONGOING PROJECTS
The Delta State government has again reiterated its determination to complete all-on going projects in fulfilment of its commitment to bequeath a legacy of development to Deltans.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Comrade Ovuozourie Macaulay, gave the commitment in Asaba while kick starting the 2013 Mid-Term Reports of the present administration in the state.
According to the SSG, a good road network was on going in different parts of the state including Asaba, adding that government had also embarked on the construction and equipping of schools in the state so as to create a conducive learning environment as well as ensuring that health sector is given a face lift.
Comrade Macaulay said Government had continued to re-energize and strengthen the bureaucratic institutions for more effective coordination towards the attainment of the three-point agenda of PEACE and Security, Human Capital Development and Infrastructural Development.
The SSG who highlighted the functions of the office of the SSG to include issuing notices of policy decisions on programmes of government, prompt attention to all appeals, petitions and reports as well as ensuring follow-up actions in the implementation of government decisions, maintained that his office had contributed immensely to alleviating the plights of the needy, addressing grievances and setting the agenda for government for the overall socio-economic development of the state.
He pointed out that the State Government through the office of the SSG recently hosted the Economic Development Office of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), pointing out that the Agency had indicated interest in assisting the state to develop agricultural food chains, aqua-culture, and the Stimulation of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs).
He disclosed that the State Government in collaboration with the State Security Council had already waded into the recent hostility between the Itsekiri and the Ijaw in Warri North Local government, saying that the State Security Council had continued to assist in resolving disputes between Oil and gas bearing communities, International and Indigenous Oil and gas companies in the state.
In the area of peace, he said, “the state government in its bid to sustain the existing peace, embarked on the appointment of about 1,018 members of Youth and Women Development Committees with the responsibility of grassroots monitoring of youth activism and general information in their areas of operation. These appointments are meant to strengthen the implementation of government policies and ensure proper articulation of its programmes as well as the delivery of projects at the grassroots.
“Other measures employed by the State Government to ensure peace and security in the state include the engagement of traditional rulers, chiefs, youth leaders, market women and security agencies in the resolution of conflicts and promotion of peace and the deployment of military personnel to major cities of Asaba, Agbor, Warri and environs.”
Comrade Macaulay stated that Government had procured and donated brand new Toyota Hilux vehicles and communication gadgets to the Delta State Police Command and other Security Agencies.
Earlier, the commissioner for information, Chike Ogeah Esq., called for a greater synergy among journalists, adding that the state government is making giant progress in the state with numerous infrastructural developments.

INDEPENDENT POWER PROJECT TO BE READY 2015 - SSG
The Secretary to the Delta State Government, Comrade Ovuozourie Macaulay, has assured Deltans that the Independent Power Project will be ready on the 29 May, 2013.
The SSG stated this while fielding questions from journalists in Asaba during the official commencement of the Mid-Term reports of the activities of his office.
According to Comrade Ovuozourie, the delay for the take off of the IPP was occasioned by inaccessibility to the site, saying that now that the road has been completed the project will soon come on stream. He disclosed that presently two turbines for the project have arrived Oghara awaiting evacuation to site.
On the issue of reviving moribund industries in the state, the SSG stated it that would be an economic misjudgement for the state to pump funds into a company that has only five percent share, stressing that it would be more profitable for the Government to establish new industries as amount required to revive moribund industries will be twice as to establish new ones.
Comrade Ovuozuorie Macaulay further stated that the Government is currently embarking massive road constructions in Asaba and other parts of the state, stressing that the State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, has made it as developing agenda to evenly spread infrastructural development to nooks and cranny of the state, ensuring that not part is short changed.

GOVERNOR UDUAGHAN ADVICES PARENTS TO INCULCATE MORAL VALUES TO CHILDREN/WARDS
Delta State Governor Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has enjoined parents to ensure the good moral and spiritual upbringing of their wards so that they would become useful citizens.
The Governor who stated this in Asaba during the Funeral Service of Mama Angelina Onyebuchi Azinge, mother of Professor Epiphany Azinge, Director-General, Nigerian Institute of Legal Studies, Asaba said that parents should create enough time for their children’s welfare, moral and spiritual training.
Dr. Uduaghan called on parents to take care of the children’s physical and moral upbringing and mould them into nation builders, explaining that lack of care and discipline has led to a lot of security and criminal challenges among youths.
His words “It is your responsibility as parents to ensure that your children are brought up physically and morally because lack of care and character has led to a lot of the security challenges we face in our society. Take out time to mould your children because if they are not well cared for and brought up they will grow up to become security problems for the nation rather than nation builders.”
While commending the Late Mama Angelina Azinge for her tireless efforts in raising and caring of her children who are now contributing to the development of the nation urged parents to emulate her and raise their children in the way of the Lord.
Governor Uduaghan also informed the gathering that the State Government has concluded plans to stop under aged children from hawking in the streets and ensure that all children of school age compulsorily attended school as part of the free education policy of the State Government.
He opined that” education is important and it is our responsibility to make it possible for our people to attend school, especially those who cannot pay for it. It is our responsibility to ensure that our children go to school. That is why we made it free at the basic and secondary levels. Soon we will deal with the case of our children who are hawking rather than been in school. It is our responsibility to ensure that they are in school. We want to ensure that our children and youths get basic education and skills to survive in life.”
Dr. Uduaghan described the life of Mama Angelina Onyebuchi Azinge as a study in Human Capital Development explaining that through the trials and challenges she faced, she turned out to be an industrious and virtuous woman.
Describing his administration’s 3 Point Agenda as not misplaced and important to the development of the state, Governor Uduaghan called on Political leaders to play key roles in providing free health care, free education and security to the people explaining that it was their responsibility to meet the needs of the people.
“Leaders are assessed by their developmental achievements but if the people have nothing in their stomachs and their interests are not considered, they will not appreciate whatever efforts you make.”
He continued “It is our responsibility to provide the opportunities our people need to get better education, better health care and ensure their safety as well.”
In his sermon, the Bishop of Asaba Diocese, Rt. Rev. Justine Mogekwu called on President Goodluck Jonathan to immediately sign into law the bill prohibiting same-sex marriage which he described as “an evil curse from the pit of hell, which is against the moral values, norms and traditions of the African Society.” He opined that same sex marriage has nothing to do with human rights or freedom of association.
According to him, “the western world cannot dictate the moral values and norms of our society. I wish to condemn their stance and pressure on Africans to accept same sex marriage and remind them that same sex marriage is unbiblical and against the ethics of marriage. They can keep their aids and assistance if acceptance of same sex marriage is a pre-condition”.
Rt. Rev. Mogekwu who commended the National Houses of Assembly for taking the initiative in passing the bill against same sex marriage and recognising its evil enjoined the political class and indeed Nigerians to appeal to the President to immediately assent to the bill and not bow to the pressure and blackmail of the Western countries.
The Bishop commended the life of Late Mama Angelina Onyebuchi Azinge who he described as a virtuous and industrious woman who catered for her children and imbued in them the Christian values which they exhibited today.
He called on the children to maintain the legacies of their mother and continue to serve humanity in all they do and advised them to put their trust in Christ as their mother did, and seek His face always.
Dignitaries at the funeral service included members of the Delta State Executive Council, National and State Houses of Assembly, Chief Okwesilieze Nwodo, the Archbishop Metropolitan and Primate of All Nigeria Anglican Church, The Most Reverend Nicholas Okoh, the Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Rt. Reverend Emmanuel Chukwumah and an array of other Bishops from all over Nigeria.
