Is this girls names or boys names? I cannot tell you their meanings because unfortunately my parents forgot to teach me Okrika. For the girls (and some unisex) Tonye Sotonye Nimi (Music, I think) Iso Indira Achase (with what?) (a paraphrase of Achase Tamuno Boma - with what shall I praise the Lord?) Selema Ibiene TamunoIbi (God is good) Ibime or Ibiso depending on your part of Ijaw (I am good or I am well) Ibilate Belema Biebele Sodienye Boma (Praise) etc, etc. . . more to come As for hardcore boys names, the ones that always make me laugh are: Mpakaboari Wariboko Sosepriala 1 Like |

Emara. . . .don't know what it means . . .Ogbia name @ifyalways: I'm Ogbia. Emara means "the birth," and is short form [usually] for "emar'otua, which means "the birth of the house." Meaning: first born. |

Hi All, Hmm - some of the so-called Ijaw names you guys are posting here just baffle me. I'm a Kalabari and so should be able to make out many of those names but it seems that some people here (naming no names) are just making them up. Say no more. kiwi992. |

I think "Alali" is really pretty. It means festival. There's Dabota or Data which means like "Father's wife" as in "daddy's girl." |

What about this one. . . Tari (Love) - Is it female, male or unisex? I also stumbled across Tari-Ebi (Love is good). Is it male, female or unisex? Thanks everyone for your contribution. @ Kiwi, if you think people are making names up, why not give us the appropriate Ijo names and their meanings/ after all, that's what the thread is all about. |
Re: Beautiful Ijaw Names by Remii(m): 3:59am On Feb 11, 2009 |
Ebikemfaa - means "No one is good" I am not Izon (Ijaw) but that came from NYSC "interactions" back in the early 90s at Agbere - Odoni - Nun Rivers area. |

Hi All, Thanks for asking. Tell you the truth, I really can't be bothered. Not much to contribute on this thread, in addition to the fact that it's too much aggro having to start correcting what others have mentioned as Ijaw names. kiwi992. |

Re: Beautiful Ijaw Names by kiwi992(m): 12:13pm On Feb 19, 2009 |
Listen You Lot, There's something fundamental that you guys are forgetting - just like you do in your everyday lives. It's called 'freedom of speech'. Ever heard of it? I don't bloody have to reply to your questions or do I? How so typical of you - we don't like him not answering us so he must be gagged! Perhaps you should ask those posters to do their research properly about Ijaw names before posting. Why the interest in Ijaw names, anyway? If you are that interested, just take a trip down there. Drive down, go on the train or coach to Port Harcourt and catch a boat to any of the Kalabari towns, Okrika, Opobo, Bonny, Nembe, Yenagoa or wherever. You must learn to respect others' wishes. It isn't by force or is it? kiwi992. |

Re: Beautiful Ijaw Names by grafikdon: 12:57am On Feb 21, 2009 |
@ Ow11, is Tare similar to Tari (meaning)? I was looking through the Ijo dictionary and found that Tari = love, couldn't find anything on Tare. The dictionary didn't specify the gender though so I assumed the name (Tari) is unisex. |
