ASUU Strike: FG mounts pressure
on lecturers

Indications have emerged that the
leadership of the Academic Staff
Union of Universities (ASUU), has
come under intense pressure
from the federal government, to
call-off its ongoing strike.
Specifically, Saturday Mirror
learnt that the Secretary to the
Government of the Federation,
SGF, Senator Pius Anyim Pius, and
the Minister of Education,Prof.
Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufai, are
among other functionaries
persuading the union to suspend
the strike, and give room for
further negotiation on phased
implementation of the 2009 FG/
ASUU agreement.
An impeccable source at the
Federal Ministry of Education,who
pleaded not to be named,assured
that no effort will be spared in
ensuring that the lecturers
returned to the classroom.
He said:”The ongoing strike action
by ASUU is giving the federal
government cause for concern,
and that informs why the minister
has been up and about to ensure
that ASUU leadership reasons
with government to suspend this
strike.
“I know that the minister and the
SGF have been in communication
with the leadership of ASUU, and
sooner than later, a more
productive and resulted-oriented
meeting will be held,” the source
stated.
The source who said the meetling
would likely hold next week said
the exact date had not been
arrived at. In spite of
government’s efforts, our
correspondent gathered that
ASUU has not shifted grounds, as
its president, Dr. Nasir Isa Fagge,
insists there is no going back.
It will be recalled that a meeting
between ASUU and Senate and
House of RepresentativesJoint
Committees on education,was
deadlocked, as the executive
members of the union insisted on
total implementation of the
outstanding agreement.

...by d power vested on me, pls dont who i am... i say, if and only if d demand of ASSU is a calculated attempt, aim @ repositioning our decayed University System, why wouldn't our government of lip-service harken to d crying of voices in d wilderness. But i reiterate, if their demand is just as self seeking as self aggrandizement(like everyone in Nigerian political office) i'll pray that d strike last infinitum, trust me. it's high time Nigerian Universities stopped producing bombs that will eventually xplod and scatter d land soonest. imagine, i and only i find it very defficult to make a simple and correct xpression in english language, a 300 level undergraduate. chai chineke, am ashamed of my country(Nigeria) including my very self, haba. abi nobi God?

GREATEST NIGERIANS STUDENTS!!!
======:>STUDENTS!!!
I WANT TO SAY==:> SAY!!!
I WANT TO YERN=:>YERN!!!
I WANT TO VIBRATE=:>VIBRATE!!!
I WANT TO EXPLODE=:>EXPLODE!!!
Time have come for us to stand up to our Government & ASUU that enough is enough playing with our future.let us tell them that when students flare up in a certain cases, one needs to critically analyze their actions & sought for immediate solution.we can not continue to fold our hands and watch them destroy our future. All various school SUG havecome to a compromise sitting on a keg of gun powder, that if our grievances are not properly address by calling off the strike before 26th of july 2013 there will be a"Nation wide riot"all over the country by the students to arrest our case by force.pass this message across if u support the movement tosay no to strike..
