Thirteen years after theywere awarded Silver medals at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, members of Nigeria’s 4×4Men’s Relay Team had their medals upgraded to Gold on Wednesday at a ceremony inside the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The upgrade followed thedisqualification of the United States’ team that initially won the Gold based on drug-related issues.
Shortly after their decoration with the upgraded medals, President Goodluck Jonathan announced a cash reward of N5m eachfor the six athletes and N7m each for their two handlers.

This is a good development. I wish this kind of medal could be given again in the eyes of the whole world while the National anthem is played with our flag floating in the air.

IOC needs to do something about this so people who cheat could really feel the impact of being caught.
