If so, why didn't the retardeen, mumu, suberu president wait until the actual equipment were ready to start construction and working before making a huge phoney show by driving a tractor in the view of the cameras only for them to be moved back elsewhere as soon as the deceptive flag off was over?

There is a Lekki Epe road that have been under construction since 2007 when fashola became governor; HI Tech, have not even passed VGC yet being tolled. This does not trouble anyone. the next issue will be that work at Lagos Ibadan Express way is slow. some persons are just being unnecessarily petty.

Chillypelly: Road construction on that road has began according to a staff of RCC. I marvel at the level of ignorance people spill around even in this rocket age. You think a road construction of that magnitude is like preparing amala and ewedu soup. To set the records straight Section 1 road stretching
about 43. 6 kilometres from Lagos to Shagamu Interchange is to be expanded into 10 lanes, has two flyovers, a median of about 5m, streetlights, turning ramps, right of way greens, underground drainages, bridges and box culverts. Section 11 of the project, which is about 84 kilometres starting from Shagamu to Ibadan in Oyo State is to be expanded into 6 lanes with street lights and right of way greens. Jonathan's government is responsive and responsible and it takes a rational person to see through and make assessments. Obj was there for good number of years with close to nothing on that road. Please lets learn the act of gratitude.

>According to my eyes as at yesterday construction had not started. Confirm with your RCC friend if the commenced construction is on paper or on ground...

>According to Mr President and Mr Min of works Lagos to Sagamu shall be 6 lanes not 10

>Obj built an extra lane from Lagos to Sagamu, he utilised what used to be the green median and put concrete median expanding the road inwards.

Year 1( 2013-2014)- Road reconstruction ceremony plus ecological, geological, geographical, physical and spiritual survey grin grin

Year 3 (2015-2016) - Serious contractual dispute-that will lead to the withdrawal of those over 700 equipments...In fact, newspapers will be awash with news that 'Julius Berger and RCC are threatening to take FG to court because of d failure of govt to provide funds'

Year 4 (2016-2017) - Contract with Julius Berger and RCC cancelled...re awarded to XYZ company for 799 billion naira!!!!

Very funny people unbelievable set of people.

A project was flagged just 3 weeks ago and some pessimist fellas are asking where the equipments are. Hmmm. You go fear pessimism.

Tommorow, when a shoddy job is done, you would be the first to complain.

So you wouldn't even allow the contractors to start procuring materials before you start complaining?

Are you aware that road construction requires raw materials?
Are you aware that traffic planning has to be done to avoid logjam.
Are you aware that finance must be planned and allocated.

How about human resource?
And community relations?
And Raining season?

You just wonder at some people.

The same people who feel its alright that Fashola has started projects on Lagos-Badagry road that he cannot finish.
The same people that feel alright that the 51 km Lekki Epe expressway is on its 8th year and yet to be completed.

You really just wonder.

Mr man, were you sleeping when the FG announced the cancellation of the contract to Bi-courtney and awarded it to JB & RCC early this year?
My point is the contractors didn't have to wait till the Flag-off before mobilizing to site since they've been awarded the contract many months ago.
Also what was the point of the GEJ fanfare when he knew work wasn't going to start immediately.
A thinking government would flag off construction on the day work actually begins

Is Fashola now the desired line of defence for federal lies and incompetency? If so, you miss road woefully because regardless of your irrelevant fashola fixation, Fashola started and completed more projects than any government in the history of Nigeria.

Don't you people feel no shame comparing your good for nothing GEJ/ federal government with all the oil money with an ordinary state governor?

Like, seriously? how? When? Where are the projects? Or are you talking about streets? Are all of us not in this Lagos? Almost all the expressways in this Lagos and flyovers were built by the FG.So, where are Fashola's own expressways and flyovers? Since 2009 they started bragging about Lagos - Badagry expressway, uptil now they have only done Orile - Mile 2 which is 5% of the entire distance.

Really, why don't you guys query Fashola first about that road whose contract was signed 5yrs ago before questioning the Lagos - Ibadan whose contract was signed early this month.

deenee: The flag off simply meant paper work has been completed. There are still a lot of logistics to be addressed. For example, many houses will be demolished for the expansion to be effective. This means that those affected will be compensated, this will also involve some paper work, verification of house ownership and I am also very sure that some of the affected won't give up without a fight so the entire project isn't going to be a typical walk in the park.

Besides the contractors also have to sort out their own internal logistics like manpower and capacity planning, equipment deployment etc

You don't expect the project to immediately kick off just because GEJ came and rode a tractor on the road recently do you?

Lagos state and Nigeria in general should ensure that companies perform after collecting mobilisation fees and signing of contracts.A Nigerian business man will be severely dealt with, and jailed if he is found to have absconded contract,or did not deliver the value paid for.
We should ensure all contractors play by the rules, this is the only way we can optimize our value.
Re: Contractors Still Absent On Lagos-ibadan Expressway by muami(m): 5:34pm On Jul 28, 2013
The Federal Controller of Works, Lagos State, Oluwatoyin Obikoya, on Sunday said that emergency repairs would be carried out on portions causing gridlock on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
“The contractors are not folding their arms; the bottlenecks at Ibafo area on the Lagos-bound lane will be cleared,” he said was quoted by the News Agency of Nigeria.
“Julius Berger will carry out emergency repair of those sections so that motorists would enjoy smooth ride and not spend long time on that road again,“ he said.
The controller said logistics were being put in place for the commencement of the reconstruction of the road.
The reconstruction, awarded to Julius Berger and RCC Nig. Ltd., was flagged off by President Goodluck Jonathan on July 5.
“When a contract is awarded, the contractor usually has to build a site yard which involves acquiring land and clearing trees and grasses.
“It has to build an office, establish a quarry, an asphalt plant and all other necessary things, “ he said.
Mr. Obikoya said the process could take up to one month or more.
He said that the contractors’ major challenge was land acquisition.
He, however, said that there had been negotiations with land owners for release of some portions.

Oldu Boy, you take style wicked oh!!! grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

But on a more serious note, as a fellow Nigerian, I totally understand why and where your frustration and scepticism stems from.

This selfsame GEJ in 2010 promised 3 greenfield refineries in Kogi, Bayelsa and Lagos; I doubt if a blade of grass has been cut in any of the proposed sites since then.

Ajaokuta steel industry has been a fantasy for the past 30 years!

Even the goal post for gas flaring which will greatly enhance the economy and the environment of the host communities remains but a fleeting illusion (apologies to Bob Marley).

I just pray and hope we don't revisit your post in 4 years time to hail you as a prophet!!!

Elections are likely to take place by the end of 2014 (not 2015).

President Jonathan and the P.D.P had to act fast to break the nagging resistance from South West.
Hence they played smart by acquiring one Fasehun who is now playing the 'divide and rule' game in Yorubaland.

Next they applied Obasanjo's trick/smartness on the Igbos by announcing and celebrating the award of Lagos/Ibadan expressway (in case you have forgotten, Obasanjo awarded contracts for the second River Niger bridge during the electioneering period in 2003 to get Igbo votes for his second term, and abandoned the project immediately he secured second term in office). grin grin

Federal government is 'broke' ( Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and El-rufai can testify to that). President Jonathan recently borrowed biliions of dollars from China.

PDP is really playing smart on the Yorubas with this LIB highway contract (I must admit this is serious political arithmetic and stratagem)

LAST BULLET: Let's see if the South West will succumb to this 'smartness' and help keep in power, a party that has failed to lift Nigeria out of darkness since May 29, 1999. HOW LONG SHALL WE SUFFER AND BE SMILING?

It is NORMAL for their to be a lag period between ceremonial flag off and time actual commencement of work. The lag period is time for deployment of man, materials and equipments on the road by the respective contractors. We'll start asking questions or getting worried if the time exceeds two months.
