Controlling coruptn is very easy. Coruption is a thing of the mind (a mind game) for coruptn to exist in a society with you at the helm of affairs it automaticaly mean that you are corupt. coruptn ceases when the oga at the top is incorruptable. 4 Likes |

we can through the combined effort of the legislature : should spell out in clear terms corrupt practices some pple do not knw when they have engaged in corruption. its the "naija way" mentality shd be abolished and embark on mass reorientation and education especially to the youths. make giving and taking of bribes uncool. make una leave furnishure allowance and other crookish way of embezzling. e follow join. the executive : should enforce and bring to book ANY and EVERYONE found guilty. Naija police una hear? no obtaining shandy, no happy wknd sir. GEJ u sef lead by example. the judiciary : should make strict and tough penalities as well as its effective compliance to offenders. no selective justice. bode george "break - time" jail sentence, farouk etc all join. but by far the most effective way is by YOU and I saying NO to taking and recieving bribes. when we do this we are sanitizing little by little the society at large. drops of water maketh the ocean. 2 Likes |

Description This indicator measures the extent to which public power is exercised for private grain, including both petty and grand forms of corruption, as well as “capture” of the state by elites and private interests. It also measures the strength and effectiveness of a country’s policy and institutional framework to prevent and combat corruption. Countries are evaluated on the following factors: The prevalence of grand corruption and petty corruption at all levels of government; The effect of corruption on the “attractiveness” of a country as a place to do business; The frequency of “irregular payments” associated with import and export permits, public contracts, public utilities, tax assessments, and judicial decisions; Nepotism, cronyism and patronage in the civil service; The estimated cost of bribery as a share of a company’s annual sales; The perceived involvement of elected officials, border officials, tax officials, judges, and magistrates in corruption; The strength and effectiveness of a government’s anti-corruption laws, policies, and institutions; Public trust in the financial honesty of politicians; The extent to which: processes are put in place for accountability and transparency in decision-making and disclosure of information at the local level; government authorities monitor the prevalence of corruption and implement sanctions transparently; conflict of interest and ethics rules for public servants are observed and enforced; the income and asset declarations of public officials are subject to verification and open to public and media scrutiny; senior government officials are immune from prosecution under the law for malfeasance; the government provides victims of corruption with adequate mechanisms to pursue their rights; the tax administrator implements effective internal audit systems to ensure the accountability of tax collection; the executive budget-making process is comprehensive and transparent and subject to meaningful legislative review and scrutiny; the government ensures transparency, open-bidding, and effective competition in the awarding of government contracts; there are legal and functional protections for whistleblowers, anti-corruption activists, and investigators; allegations of corruption at the national and local level are thoroughly investigated and prosecuted without prejudice; government is free from excessive bureaucratic regulations, registration requirements, and/or other controls that increase opportunities for corruption; citizens have a legal right to information about government operations and can obtain government documents at a nominal cost. Relationship to Growth & Poverty Reduction Corruption hinders economic growth by increasing costs, lowering productivity, discouraging investment, reducing confidence in public institutions, limiting the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, weakening systems of public financial management, and undermining investments in health and education.[1] Corruption can also increase poverty by slowing economic growth, skewing government expenditure in favor of the rich and well-connected, concentrating public investment in unproductive projects, promoting a more regressive tax system, siphoning funds away from essential public services, adding a higher level of risk to the investment decisions of low-income individuals, and reinforcing patterns of unequal asset ownership, thereby limiting the ability of the poor to borrow and increase their income.[ |

You have to be straight yourself. Then make scapegoats of corrupt leaders - punish them, shame them and their family. The western style of democracy cannot work in Nigeria ...everyone has a price here ..a judge can easily be bribed or threatened. Bring that hammer down of corrupt officials and watch as masses straigten up And dont celebrate mediocrity ..all those LIB, BN showing celebrities buying new cars and showing wedding pictures gotten with stolen funds. Idiagbon did this for a while so it can be done. You win a contract and dont execute: you are going to lose all your money and still go to jail for a long time...including those who awarded you the contract. But like I said at first, as the president, you have to be straight yourself....and dont forget their going to go after your family. So..be prepared. 2 Likes |

It's impossible to 'manage' corruption in Nigeria. It's already an established facet of our lives. The best you can do is to look for the incentives for corruption and take them away progressively. And I think successive governments have tried to do that, through privatization, decentralizing some institutions, and so on. But corruption cannot go away in Nigeria. Fact. |

So this free browsing guy still carry im death warrant come this thread Dem no dey ban person from posting on Nairaland atall? As for corruption in Nigeria oga op the only effective method is doing what people of Ghana did in Nigeria, but then who'd start it? Would Bluetooth, Eko Ile and co agree to allign with PointB and Onlytruth in killing or Otedola, Tinubu, Fayemi etc? Or would Okijajuju, Berem, etc agree together with Texascowgirl, Illugunboy in forcing GEJ, Ekweremadu, Ihedioha etc to relinquish power and face the wrath of the law? Even if they do, who are they going to put in power and would they do that peacefully? Oga op and co lets stop making a fool of ourselves cuz as long as Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa remain in a definite border as one country, a peacefull and corrupt free Nigeria would never materialize. |

The problem is that people blame the govt for corruption. someone can come into this country and see corruption in the streets without being close to government. Nigerians need reorientation. afterall, It is not the government that will make the corrupt mechanic to use substandard spare parts on your vehicle neither is the govt responsible for LASTMA collecting bribe. What the govt should do is to punish any offender regardless of how highly placed. But it's so difficult because of the kind of politics we practice in Nigeria. Everything and anything is politics in Nigeria. Hence, have Political implications. 2 Likes |
