jteku: While I do know France is backing BH heavily its been 7 long years. The command and control issues along with motivation, equipment and TTP issues still seem unresolved. Its time to bite the bullet-come to a de facto agreement with BH meaning cede some territory or bring back STTEPS with a clear mandate. Otherwise the slow bleeding to death of the NA continues til it reaches breaking point-if it hasn't already. There's no magic wand to solve systemic NA problems-Tucs and tac air will help but not solve the problem which imo is a doctrinal crisis coupled with Command and Control issues that need top to bottom reassessment. OR,go the Sri Lanka way-the war against the only conventional set piece battle fighting terrorists, the LTTE was won after a quarter century after platoon and coy commanders painfully learned lessons on the battle field and later led brigades and regiments. Here's the story of one 2nd Lt later Col.Perera. Since independence in 1948, army training in Sri Lanka had consisted of traditional maneuver training based on British doctrine, with the addition of some improvised training that would suit the Sri Lankan environment. During the ceasefire of 2002 to 2006, the army conducted SIOT training to address LTTE fighting strategies. SIOT operations took away the freedom of movement that the LTTE elements had enjoyed over the decades of insurgency, bringing the battlefronts within four to five kilometers of LTTE campsIt seems once they UNLEARNED Brit indoctrination and developed more suitable tactics they won the war. |

Odunayaw: Btw,here we really overlook what 'spec ops' means. Many have no idea the equipment, training and operational experience that must happen before you stand up a true spec ops unit. The years of developing tactical doctrine and finding TTPs that work can't be done copy pasting foreign trainers advice. Here,D Coy of 20 Para was the nucleus of the KDF 30th spec ops bn. Not many know but they were first set up around 99 and at least a half coy were eyes on during the Rwanda/Uganda arty exchange in Kisangani August 2000. Since then they've operated DRC,CAR,S Sudan and Somalia and some of their kit includes Russian MRAPs with satellite dishes to piggy back Western and Chinese sat intel. |

kikuyu1: Are you really serious on the above quote. Cede territory to Islamic fundamentalists that are very different from the Tamil Tigers? Why not say just give up and cede the whole Nigeria to ISWAP. |

blacKDalia: That's only one option among several. The current NA response is simply unsustainable on all levels. If it were me I'd turn to STTEPS since the Sri Lanka scenario would take another decade and a half to operationalize. |

kikuyu1: If you de facto cede a part of the country then be ready to give more. One of the conditions, amongst others given to the govt to discontinue the fighting is to declare sharia in Nigeria and therefore make it an Islamic republic. STTEPS is not an option as said by the present govt and I agree with them. Why do you think we've the present scenario in the North East for almost ten years? Your guess might be as good as mine. There is a capability gap vis-a-vis equipment, training and doctrine, but they are not completely incapable. If the military for the past 5 years are doing the same thing without achieving much desired result against an adversary that's not a near peer then the problem is from the military command. |
