Nigeria is sitting on crude oil reserves estimated at 35 billion barrels (enough to fuel the entire world for more than a year), not to mention 100 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. it also manages to pay its legislators the highest salaries in the world, with a basic wage of 122,000 Pounds, nearly double what British MPs earn and many hundred of times that of the country's ordinary citizens.

The ruling elite can afford luxury homes in London or Paris, with top-end cars; yet 70% of Nigerians live below the poverty line of 1.29 Pounds a day, struggling with a failing infrastructure and chronic fuel shortages because of lack of petrol refining capacity, even though their country produces more crude oil than Texas.

Even with all this facts; by the end of its term, the British government would have handed over 1 Billion pounds in aid to Nigeria.

This is mind disturbing, and even though we are aware of all these; it seems Nigerians have become helpless and we have accepted these realities as our lot and there is nothing we can do about it. There are cries of revolution from all corners but history has shown that most of the people that make this cries only need to get a piece of this "National Cake" before their cries fade away. (we have examples currently in power, they once criticized the government but as soon as they were made special advisers; they have become allies).........

Democracy in Nigeria is defined as the government of "some" people; when it becomes the government of "the" people again....maybe a revolution can then be born.

Things will improve ,revolution will not change anything because the mindset of
corruption is now a culture, if you are in the position to make it and you
don't do it, your wife and kids will not even forgive you because hardship
may be the reward for such honest person later in life. Nigerians should vote for
those who will deliver , this is the only way . Although votes doesn't always
count in a corrupt country but with time , the right people will come. If you
look at the pace of development in most states for about 8 yrs now is very remarkable,
if democracy continues , within the next 10 yrs , Nigeria will be a country that people
all over the world will love to go to.

The Brits are right! Nigeria is indeed a bongo-bongo land and the British aid simply end up in the pockets of those who have brought Nigeria to its knees.

But,the Brits should not forget their inglorious role in putting this corruption Inc. company in place and even fighting tooth and nail to keep it united! The Brits must be complaining now because China is making more money from their cash cow - Nigeria than they are. Some really Bongo-Bongo Brits!!

Bitter old man! He should ask his saintly government to apologise for colonisation and refund all the goods carted away to build the empire. These things can be used to fund our own NHS, Rail network and Benefits programme whilst our elites steal the oil money like his beloved ROYAL FAMILY does

And after collecting this aid we keep quiet but when they want to start interfering with our policies like asking us to legalize homosexuality, that is when we remember that we are a sovereign nation. What I think Britain should with that money do is get into a helicopter fly close to the ground and be dropping it,(even though the idea seems lame) it will have a direct impact on the lives of the citizens than giving it to those crooks.
I have heard many blame Britain for our present state, even United State of America was colonized by Britain and today, she is a bigger world power than Britain. How long shall we continue to live in the past? What was it they stole from us that we have not recovered in a million folds either in aids or with the discovery of oil. The Berlin conference of 1884(otherwise known as the Scramble for Africa) was a necessary evil as it also has its own advantage. Let us stop mourning and groaning over the past and face the future by shaping our destiny with our own hands.

Exactly,
All the countries the British ruled from India, Pakistan,to Sudan to Hong Kong, Nigeria etc, all had issue of nationalism and many had to breakup just to live in peace.

The French were a little bit more considerate of the people they ruled and their really diverse culture,so although they created tiny countries like Togo,Benin etc, but most of their former colonies remained stable, prosperous and endured.

like Fela said, the British are responsible for what Nigeria turned into.

They continued to support evil in Nigeria,until Nigeria itself became a byword for evil.Now they are complaining. Yeye Hypocrites!
