Two held in Gambia on gay charges 

Two Spanish men have been arrested in The Gambia accused of making homosexual advances to taxi drivers, police say.

Last month, President Yahya Jammeh's threatened to behead gay people at a political rally and said they had 24 hours to leave the country.

He promised "stricter laws than Iran" on homosexuality and said he would "cut off the head" of any gay person. Correspondents say a crackdown on homosexuals could hit The Gambia's vital tourism industry.

Mr Jammeh's statements have been condemned by gay rights activists but the AP news agency says it was backed by the country's Supreme Great Religious Council, which said the president had taken a "principled stand".

Correspondents say a number of homosexual men have fled to The Gambia from neighbouring Senegal after a crackdown there following arrests at a "gay wedding" in February.

Both countries are predominantly Great One and President Jammeh cultivates an image of being a devout Great One.

Homosexual sex is illegal in The Gambia, where those convicted of consensual homosexual acts face jail terms of up to 14 years, reports say.

Well, the beheading part is a little bit rash. Maybe, send those gays to prison with a rod stuck up into their dickies  I think that is less harsh penalty 


If I go into Saudi Arabia , I would not dare to look at anything that is not my own. Not to talk of stealing. The penalty is chopping off your arm. At least , that was what I heard.

Knowing my personality, I definitely know that chances are I may never visit Saudi Arabia in my lifetime, cause of the "Strict" laws out there. I mean, all respect, just that I can't promise I will be able to keep by head and hands away from their chopping board, ROFLMAO!!!

I think this summarises it. An Afghan judge on being criticised for the trial on a m uslim convert to Christianity(its a crime there to convert) said the western countries should learn to respect other nation's laws,he said for instance(talking to a european journalist) "in your country it is legal for 2 women to marry,here its an abomination,would I then protest at your laws?"

While not supporting laws that trample on people's civil liberties,people should learn to respect other's point of view.
