The suspected child trafficker, IbrahimWonders they say will never end. This popular saying played out itself in Minna, Niger State recently when a blind man was nabbed for allegedly running a child trafficking syndicate.

The 58-year-old blind man was said to have specialised in picking up kids and distributing them as guides to his fellow blind men across the country.

Ibrahim Ahmadu was said to have been using some supernatural powers to pick the children, it was alleged that immediately he touched anybody, the person would follow him sheepishly.

Investigations revealed that Ibrahim Ahmadu had confessed to “distributing” two kids to fellow blind men in Ilorin, Kwara State and Abuja, the federal capital territory.

However, luck ran against him as he was trafficking four other boys from Kaduna to the southern part of the country when he was arrested at the Gwada railway station.


The four victimsThe police said its men at the Gwada railway station suspected the Nigerien blindman when he was leading the four boys, Isah Abubakar Umar Iliya, Mustafa Abdul-hameed and Musa Usman around the platform at the station.

When he was accosted, according to Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Richard Oguche, he could not explain how he came about the boys. The Police spokesman said the boys who were later interrogated said the blind man was taking them to the “ south “ for what they did not know.

The police later sent “signal” to the Kaduna State police command which confirmed that reports of some missing children at the Rigasa area of the town had been received by the force.

Oguche said that investigations into the case had commenced but hinted that the suspect and the kids would be transferred to the Kaduan State police command since the offence was committed in that area.

However, Ahmadu who is totally blind said the boys were the “almajiris” who used to guide beggars on their begging exercise and denied that he kidnapped them.

One of the boys said they were following Ahmadu because he assured them that they would be sharing the proceeds from the begging business.
