CrimeProperty Developer Jailed For 2,670 Years For N25m Scam by 13Ebisco(op): 4:37pm On May 17, 2018
A Nigerian property developer, identified as Alhaji Ayobami Oseni, has reportedly been sentenced to a jail term of 2,670 years, just yesterday.

The outrageous jail sentence was pronounced by Chief Magistrate O. O. Olatunji of an Ebute-Metta Magistrate’s Court to the convict for defrauding a total of 133 accommodation seekers of N25 million.

It was gathered that Oseni was convicted by the magistrate after he owned up to a 267-count charge of conspiracy, obtaining under false pretences and stealing slammed on him by the police and was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment on each of the counts without an option of fine.

The sentences, which are to run concurrently, take effect from April 26, 2017 when Oseni was remanded in prison custody following the revocation of his bail.

In sentencing the developer, Olatunji held that the offences contravened Sections 285, 312 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011 and ordered the Lagos State government to sell the building and share the proceeds among the 133 victims of the fraud.

The convict was arraigned by the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID) on December 7, 2012.

Upon his arraignment, he pleaded not guilty, however, in the course of trial, Oseni changed his lawyer about four times before deciding to represent himself.

This change led him to change his plea to “guilty.”

He denied being a fraudster and claimed that the building contained eight apartments, not six, but that it was “not normal” for 133 people to live in eight apartments.

During his trial on February 27, 2013, prosecution’s lawyer, ASP Abraham Fadipe, told the court that Oseni was the developer of a onestorey building at No 3, Church Close, Ajao Estate, Lagos.

He described the building as containing four mini-flats and two self-contained apartments.

According to Fadipe, Oseni posed as a landlord and erected ‘To let’ signs around Ajao Estate while the building was under construction.

Oseni was said to have obtained rents, agency and agreement fees ranging from N160,000 to N300,000, totalling N25 million from at least 133 accommodation seekers on the pretext that each of them would get an apartment in the building.

The prosecution called five witnesses, four of whom testified that when they arrived at the property to take possession, it was already occupied.

The prospective tenants later petitioned the Lagos State Real Estate Transaction Department (LASRETRAD), an agency of the Lagos State Ministry of Housing on November 26, 2012.

The agency later invited the police and held watching brief while trial lasted

Briefing journalists in Abuja, yesterday, Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Ibok Ete-Ibas, also disclosed that 42 vessels were arrested in connection with oil theft and other unwholesome practices in the Nigerian maritime domain.

Ibas, represented by the Chief of Naval Transformation, Naval Headquarters, Rear Admiral Begroy Ibe-Enwo, said the briefing was to acquaint the public with the focus of the Nigerian Navy and its activities, especially those programmed to mark the 62nd anniversary celebration scheduled to take place between May 23 and June 1.

Ibas said: “These boats have gone a long way in bolstering Nigerian Navy capacity to police and carry out survey of Nigeria’s maritime environment.”On the 42 arrested vessels, he said:” Available records show that in the last one year, the Nigerian Navy has sustained aggressive patrol within the nation’s maritime environment covering over 22,000 hours. ‘’

He added that the Nigerian Navy personnel are involved in various Internal Security operations in the coastal states of the Federation and some other states including Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Plateau states amongst others, adding that the Nigerian Navy was aware of the current state of sooth over Port Harcourt and environs.
According to him, the desire of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ete-Ibas was to have an impressive naval fleet of operational ships, manned with competent and motivated personnel.

The Nigerian Navy has a huge challenge of tackling the spate of piracy on Nigerian waters, as the situation appears unabated.Last month, pirates off the coast of Nigeria took about 12 seafarers, manning the FWN Rapide general cargo vessel. Few weeks later, the company ForestWave, confirmed that 11 of the crewmembers were alive and together. There has been no report to confirm the release at the moment.

The acquisition of the 179 high-speed boats is expected to aid the operations of the Nigerian Navy and positions Nigeria properly in the comity of maritime nations. The International Maritime Bureau (IMB) had reported a rise in armed attacks against ships in the Gulf of Guinea since the beginning of this year. There have been 22 incidents recorded in Nigeria alone, of 66 reported incidents globally in the first quarter of this year. Also, the Gulf of Guinea accounts for 29 incidents in the first quarter of 2018, more than 40 per cent of the global total. Of the 114 seafarers captured worldwide, all but one was in this region.

CelebritiesPope Condemns Gaza Killings, Says Mideast Needs Justice, Peace by 13Ebisco(op): 12:20pm On May 16, 2018
Pope Francis on Wednesday condemned the killing of Palestinians near the Gaza-Israel border, saying the deaths would only lead to more violence, and appealed for dialogue to bring justice and peace to the Middle East.

“I express my great pain for the dead and wounded and I am close in prayer and affection to all those who are suffering,” he told tens of thousands of people at his general audience in St. Peter’s Square.

“I repeat that the use of violence never leads to peace. War begets war and violence begets violence.”

Israeli forces killed 60 Palestinians near the Gaza-Israel border on Monday during demonstrations against the opening of the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem, in the bloodiest day in Gaza in years.

Francis, who visited Israel and Palestinian territories in 2014, asked both sides and the international community to redouble efforts “so that dialogue, justice and peace prevail”.

In December 2017, when U.S. President Donald Trump announced the decision to move the embassy, Francis called for Jerusalem’s “status quo” to be respected, saying new tension in the Middle East would further inflame world conflicts.

Speaking earlier in the audience to a group of Polish World War Two veterans, he said: “We never

PoliticsYou Can’t Be Governor In Lagos Without Tinubu – Fayose’s Deputy by 13Ebisco(op): 7:21am On May 16, 2018
Deputy Governor of Ekiti State and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the July 14 governorship election, Prof. Kolapo Olusola has expressed pride in being regarded as Governor Ayo Fayose’s boy.

He said this in an interview with Channels Television on Tuesday, adding that there was nothing wrong to have a political godfather.

Explaining his point, he said that former Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole helped his successor Godwin Obaseki become the governor and former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu also helped his successors.

Responding to a question on whether he was handpicked by Fayose, Olusola said:

“Well, you called it an appellation but remember that we have example of people in this country and beyond the shores of Nigeria, who have been supported by their leaders and mentors to become governors, deputies and other positions. Look at Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, will you call him Oshiomhole’s boy?

“Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is doing well in Lagos, our leader, Senator Bola Tinubu supported him. So, it is not a crime for my governor and leader, Fayose, under whom I have served for close to four years now and has mentored me in the act of governance and coupled with the exposure from where I am coming from.

“It is not a crime for him to support me having seen the unique qualities in me. So, if I am Fayose’s boy, good. The most important thing is that Ekiti State comes first and my performance is what matters.

“I have a political father who is Peter Ayodele Fayose and I am proud of him.

“But remember, the issue at stake is Ekiti State and the buck stops at my table when I become governor, I have a name to protect. So, it is not a crime to have learned from someone or wrong to have been supported by your leader or governor. Let us watch and see whether this young man called Kolapo Olushola will perform as governor.”

Asked if he has the political structure to win the election, Olusola said:

“I have a political structure. Don’t forget that political structure starts from somewhere. I am already part of a structure, We have a base and a virile structure on the ground. I am proud to say that I belong to Ayodele Fayose political family. Go to Lagos State, you can’t become governor there without belonging to the Tinubu political family.

“What we are saying is this, we are talking about continuity agenda; continuity of good governance, excellent performance in education. Don’t forget that I have been the deputy governor of Ekiti State for the past three years six month now and by the grace of God I have been asked to oversee the Ministry of Education.

“Today, we have made history, Ekiti State came first, back to back in 2016 and 2017 NECO examination. Before it has always been 18th, 29th, 34th positions and poor percentage pass in WAEC. As at the last WAEC exam in 2017, Ekiti State recorded 73.86 per cent pass. Beyond that, I have been able to do well in other areas assigned by my governor definitely I am well-prepared for this task. Also, the structure is intact.”

PhonesReport: Despite Challenges, 9mobile Deal Will Go Ahead by 13Ebisco(op): 6:24am On May 14, 2018
Teleology seeks to raise $300m bridge loan

By Emma Okonji with agency report

Despite the challenges from different opposition groups trying to stop the ongoing sale of 9mobile to an investment firm, Teleology Holdings, the deal is still on course and will still go ahead, according to sources.

TMT Finance reported that the 9mobile deal would still go ahead despite the challenges from opposition groups that are trying to use the court to stop the sale of 9mobile to the preferred bidder, Teleology Holdings Limited.

According to the report, some operators have been lobbying for the 9mobile case, which could end up with Teleology being auditioned in front of the House of Representative to present the viability of its project for 9mobile.

A Federal High Court had also put on hold the sale of 9mobile following opposition to the deal by some shareholders of the company. One of the companies said to be a shareholder in 9mobile and a plaintiff in the suit is Katsina businessman, Alhaji Dahiru Mangal.

However, sources added it would be hard to find grounds to stop the deal from happening on both of these fronts.

As for the court order, the local councils overseeing case have already given an informal approval for the deal to go ahead, sources commented.

Considering all the delays, the transaction could close late June.

The report said Teleology Holdings has hired UBS to help it raise a $300million bridge loan which will come from local banks and investors.

Teleology, it was gathered, made an offer of $301 million to acquire 9mobile, and had since paid the $50 million NIN-refundable cash deposit to clinch its preferred bidder position for the sale of 9mobile.

The remaining amount to be paid will be raised via equity, the TMT Finance report said.

Teleology, a special purpose vehicle (SPV), was set up by Nigerian investors.

Teleology is under the stewardship of Adrian Wood, one of the past CEOs of MTN Nigeria.

Adrian Wood, an Australian-born technocrat, was the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Nigeria from 2002 to 2004.

In all of the opposition, Wood remained resolute and optimistic that he would deliver on promise in terms of the financial ability of Teleology to pay all monies pertaining to the acquisition of 9mobile, and in terms of the technical capability to handle 9mobile.

To set the ball rolling, Wood, in less than 24 hours after meeting the March 22 deadline for the payment of the $50 million non-refundable cash deposit for 9mobile, announced his 10-point agenda on which the telecoms company would be managed.

Teleology, in a statement detailed an ambitious plan of action that would guide its rapid overhaul not only of the network but all aspects of the operations.

According to Wood, “9mobile is transiting into a new phase that will be defined by optimal value delivery: value to our employees, value to our customers, value to local communities and indeed to all stakeholders.”

He added that the new organisation to emerge would be “engineering led and brand driven.” In delivering service, we will strive to ensure that 9mobile operations deliver fulfillment to our customers, empowerment to local communities, protection to the vulnerable, and excellent rewards not only to our shareholders but to all stakeholders,” Wood said

Politics2019: Group Launches Online TV To Showcase Buhari’s Achievements by 13Ebisco(op): 6:19pm On May 12, 2018
The Muhammadu Buhari Legacy Foundation, a political organisation, says it has begun an online television station to showcase the achievements of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration so far.

Pastor Edward Olutoke, Chairman, North-Central of the foundation, said in a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday that the television station “is being run in partnership with Young Nigerians Against Greed (Y-NAG)

He said that the television station www.buharilegacytv.com would chronicle the present administration’s achievements in housing, entertainment, telecommunication, agriculture and security, among others, for the purpose of enlightening the public on the president’s credibility and capability to build a stronger nation.

“The news contents of the television station will be stronger on how these achievements have impacted on Nigerians by playing back the previous socio-political situation in the country before the advent of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“The station will also sensitise the public on the need for Nigerians to vote Buhari to power in 2019, following his achievements in exposing the enemies of the country who looted the country’s resources.

“Buhari has also steered back the economy to stability from the total collapse situation the past administration left it, giving Nigerians the hope for a better future in his first tenure,’’ Olutoke said.

He quoted Buhari during his electioneering as saying that fighting corruption was fundamental to restoring the moral health of the nation and freeing the country’s enormous resources for urgent socio-economic development.

Olutoke observed that in spite of the challenges he faced in the fight against corruption, his resolve to fight on has been unwavering.

PoliticsUntold Story About Late Arisekola’s Properties by 13Ebisco(op): 6:30am On May 12, 2018
Until he passed on, the late Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Azeez Alao Arisekola, was very wealthy and influential.
In his 20s, the Ibadan, Oyo State-born industrialist had established a chain of businesses under the Lister conglomerate, which cut across food production, real estate management, insurance, transport and publishing.
He was well loved by many people and musicians sang his praise to high heavens due to his magnanimity.
But as soon as the man of means and honour died in 2014, trouble began to rear its ugly head.

In particular, his properties, which were a big attraction then, began to suffer neglect. His most cherished mansion in his hometown, where he had played host to presidents, heads of state, governors, ministers as well as many prominent people, is now a shadow of itself.
“The expansive estate has lost its glory, as rodents have taken over the place. The building is not only dirty, but also in total disrepair,’’ a source disclosed.
Our source further disclosed that the reason for the abandonment of this expansive building and many others is not unconnected with the controversy that arose over his vast estate barely a year after he passed on. How?
His will, which was certified by the Oyo State High Court in August 2013, was reportedly administered a couple of days after his burial last year by Dr. Oba Otudeko.
The properties were shared among his 32 children, three wives, three relations as well as some individuals.

Sources close to the family claimed that credit institutions that granted Arisekola funds are now literally at the neck of the family, owing to his inability to offset the debts before his demise.
As a result, the banks, Spy glass gathered, have concluded plans, following a court order, to confiscate most of the properties used as collaterals.
Although the majority of these properties have been inherited by children and families as stated in his will, it was gathered that the banks are set to take possession of them in order to offset the loans Arisekola had taken.

PoliticsN6.3bn Fraud: I Have Diabetes – Jang Cries Out From Detention by 13Ebisco(op): 6:49am On May 11, 2018
A former governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang has asked a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja to order his release from the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The ex-governor said he was diabetic.

Jang approached the court barely 72 hours after his arrest by the EFCC over an alleged N6.3bn fraud.

Jang, in a motion on notice filed by his team of lawyers led by Christopher Eichie, Yakubu Philemon, and Kola Oseni, said his continued detention by the EFCC had made it difficult for him to receive medical attention, which has made his “blood sugar control to be in a bad state.”

A copy of the court processes was given to journalists during a press conference jointly addressed by his media consultant, Clinton Garuba, and another member of his legal team, David Dusu.

While Dusu said he had filed an action at the Plateau State High Court in Jos to press for Jang’s bail, Garuba condemned the manner he was picked, describing his predicament as “politically motivated.”

Dusu said, “Jang was told by the EFCC operatives that he would see the EFCC chairman (Ibrahim Magu); but as soon as he got to the Tunde Idiagbon Block in the commission, he was told he couldn’t go home and that has been the case. He has been kept in the EFCC custody since Monday and has not been charged to court.

“Ironically, both the EFCC and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other-related offences Commission are charging him with the same issue. We are seeing some political intimidation. We are not in a banana republic where anything can happen. They have kept him for 72 hours, the EFCC is holding him unconstitutionally. We are appealing to Nigerians to mount pressure on the EFCC to release Jang.”

The Peoples Democratic Party had in its reaction asked the EFCC to grant Jang bail because of “his health condition and the fact that he is denied access to his lawyers, family and medication.”

Speaking with journalists in Jos, the Chairman of the PDP in Plateau State and a former Minister of Sports, Damishi Sango, said, “As a sitting senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Jonah David Jang who is presently in the custody of the EFCC has been denied bail. This, we consider as a gross violation of his fundamental human rights as provided under the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“In making the appeal for the release of Senator Jang, we are mindful of his health condition and the fact that he is being denied access to his lawyers, family and medication.

“Jang is under threat because of his presidential ambition. If anybody wants to be President, the present government will hold and twist the person’s neck. They think that Jang has large supporters in Plateau State and that if allowed, his popularity might jeopardise their chances in the 2019 election. But the people of Plateau State have taken a decision to sack the APC in 2019.”

PoliticsNigeria To Refine 400,500 Barrels Of Crude Oil Locally In 2019 – Baru by 13Ebisco(op): 8:24am On May 09, 2018
The Group Managing Director, GMD, of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru has assured that Nigeria will achieve the refining of about 400, 500 barrels of crude oil per day by the end of 2019.

MC EBISCO reports that the said volume represents 90 percent of the combined refining capacity of all government-owned refineries in the country.

Speaking yesterday at the 50th Offshore Technology Conference, OTC, in Houston, Texas, USA, Baru stated that achieving full capacity restoration of the nation’s four refineries would transform Nigeria from being a net exporter of crude oil to being a net exporter of petroleum products.

He said: “In terms of refining and production of local petroleum products, we have faced the challenge head-on and we are fully committed to the Ministerial directive of ending the importation of petroleum products before the end of 2019.

“We are in talks with the original builders of the refineries to return them to at least 90 per cent capacity utilisation before the 2019 deadline. The expectation is for Nigeria to transform from being a net exporter of crude oil to being a net exporter of petroleum products.

“To this end, we proceeded with tendering of the rehabilitation programmes of our four refineries using a contractor- financing model. The process is almost complete and successful companies for the different projects will soon be announced. This model is expected to be a self-sustaining financial model with near zero reliance on the Federal Government funds.

“For smooth running and implementation, we are also changing the operating and commercial framework of the refineries to make them work efficiently and also be commercially viable.”

Reports showed that Nigeria’s refineries operate far below their combined capacity of 445,000 barrels per day (bpd) due to years of neglect, as well as theft from pipelines and sabotage, thus forcing the country to import nearly all the fuel it consumes, a hefty burden because of price caps on petrol.

PoliticsOhanaeze – We Have No New Leadership – Youth Wing by 13Ebisco(op): 9:05am On May 08, 2018
The Ohanaeze Youth Wing, OYW, Monday, said the reported inauguration of a new leadership of the body should be disregarded by the public.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Mazi Okechukwu Isigizoro-led leadership of the OYW.

The statement, made available to DAILY POST, was signed by Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, Secretary General, Ohanaeze Youth Wing and Comrade Obinna Achionye, Deputy President.

This came amidst reports that a new leadership of the Ohanaeze Youths and the Women wings were inaugurated in Enugu on Monday.

The said new leadership is led by Arthur Obiora from Anambra State.

However, the the Isiguzoro-led leadership of OYW said such claims were null and void and should be discarded.

The statement read in part, “it has come to the notice of Ohanaeze Youth Wing, OYW, that the illegal and unconstitutional political appointee youth cliques, created by the erstwhile President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo to impersonate Okechukwu Isiguzoro-led Ohanaeze Youth Wing would be unlawfully inaugurated.

“We hereby reiterate that there is no vacancy in Ohanaeze Youth Wing and shall regard this as an affront to create ill feelings within Ohanaeze youth, an action that is likely to break public peace. We call upon the public to note the following stand of Ohanaeze Youth Wing:

“On the age limit, Arthur Obiorah, 56, is not qualified, for in Ohanaeze Youth Wing leadership, we are governed by the conventional stipulation known as United Nation’s standard, which is also prevalent in Nigeria, which put youth age at not above 40 years.”

While also accusing Obiorah of not possessing the right academic qualifications, the group said he is “a grandfather with 3 grandchildren and has no business being around Ohanaeze Youths, not to even talk of leading/representing Igbo youths before the public or even participating in ethnic nationality youth forums’ meetings with youths from Arewa, Afenifere, Ijaw, Middle Belt, etc.

“Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro remains the president of Ohanaeze Youth Wing until next April when the Abia tenure expires and a resourceful youth president emerges from Anambra.

“Be it noted that Ohanaeze Youth Wing is fully an independent organ, with full backing of the laws of the land and Igbo mandate, fully registered appropriately as a corporate entity, which could sue and be sued.

“However, Ohanaeze Youths will not be deterred from fully operating democratically and as well continue to serve Ndigbo well, with respect to others.

“It is verily regrettable that erstwhile President Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Nnia Nwodo, still forcing himself on the Igbo’s and against Igbo preferred Prince Richard Ozobu presidency has made a political charade appointment to usurp Ohanaeze youth Wing leadership.

“It is clear desperation of a man who wants to cover a genuine opposition outside and within for trying to repeat the mistakes of the past without proper consultation and endorse his presidential aspirant from Northeast

“While Ohanaeze Youth Wing led by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro will continue to be peaceful and not be seen to be violent, we will use appropriate legal means to seek redress of any abnormality done to us by Nwodo and his puppet youths presently doing his bidding.

“We warn that we should not be held responsible if this eventually leads to breach of public peace. We are afraid that the rank and files of the Igbo youths are not happy with Nwodo and may be pushed to actions beyond OYW control.

“Hence, we call upon Nwodo to call off his Ohanaeze Youth Wing’s charade/inauguration to enable peace continue to reign in Igbo land and avoid turning the region to another crisis zone.”

PoliticsRivers APC Congress: Senator Abe Speaks On Involvement In Secretariat Attack by 13Ebisco(op): 6:00pm On May 07, 2018
A member of National Assembly, Senator Magnus Abe, has denied allegations that his supporters were responsible for the attack on the All Progressives Congress (APC) Secretariat on Friday in Port Harcourt.

MC EBISCO reports that some persons suspected to be supporters of the senator allegedly attacked and vandalised property at the party’s secretariat in protest against alleged high-handedness of the leadership in the state.

But Abe told newsmen in Port Harcourt on Monday that he had no link with the perpetrators of the attack.

“How can anybody just conclude that they were my supporters?

“It cannot be completely correct to say that those who attacked the party office are my supporters simply because we share similar sentiments,’’ he said.

Abe, however, admitted that some party supporters were aggrieved over the outcome of the just-concluded congress in the state.

“The high-handedness in the party is very obvious; many party faithful are not happy, the result is what we have just seen,’’ he said.

The senator claimed that he had never supported violence in politics and would not do so for any reason.

“Today, those who stood in support of the party a few years ago are now being labelled thugs; before now, they were agents of democracy.

“I am saying that we must enthrone internal democracy in our party; we must say `no’ to high-handedness and undemocratic tendencies,’’

PoliticsSecondus Slams Buhari Over Harassment Of Melaye by 13Ebisco(op): 7:29am On May 07, 2018
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to check the growing incidence of human rights abuses and harassment of opposition elements in the country.

In his reaction to the alleged harassment of Senator Dino Malaye and Senator Shehu Sani, the PDP boss warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Buhari that Nigeria is not in military rule, but democracy.

Secondus while responding to questions from journalists recently in Abuja, added that “on Ekiti election, processes have began, we have done the three man committee, ward delegates. On Tuesday there will be state congress to elect our candidate. Thereafter campaign will start and you know the governor has done very well in that state. So we are sure that the state will still remain PDP state.

The PDP chairman lamented that, “the fear of everybody around the globe, not only Nigeria, is that Nigeria has turned to be a police state by the (APC) government of President Buhari and he has introduced some elements he used when he was head of state, arresting, harassing and intimidating people. You don’t do that in democracy, you allow the rule of law to reign.

Secondus said: “We are not in the military era. Look at how Senator Dino Melaye was treated. A senator should be treated with all amount of civility. And we believe that if he has done anything wrong; let him be taken to court in a good manner and not like a common criminal. So you can see that more of things like this will be coming to the opposition, if they could treat their own persons like this.

“Remember when we raised alarm of the conspiracy theory of the APC, you know what is happening to distinguished Senator Shehu Sani, his being framed up and quite a number of people, they just pick them and charge them. It is not going to resolve the problem, don’t turn Nigeria into a police state, everybody is living in fear as if we are in Abacha’s regime, he lamented.

He revealed that, “this government is intimidating our people, but we will resist, we will not be afraid, nothing can intimidate us. Because our leaders, our founding fathers wrestle power from the military and brought this democracy, so we will maintain it despite all the harassment, media trial, media jailing and all sort of things that the ruling part have deployed against the opposition.

He urged members of the public to speak out against the APC, assuring them that their freedom of expression is guaranteed in the democratic system of government that we adopted and that his party is working day and night to bring like minds together, to a common front so that they can work together for the interest of the country.

PoliticsPresidency Blasts Obasanjo Over Buhari’s Meeting With Trump by 13Ebisco(op): 9:08am On May 04, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, has insisted that his principal’s visit to the United States of America (USA), was beneficial to the country.

In a statement, Shehu claimed Buhari got all he wanted from the U.S. government.

This was in apparent response to criticisms of the trip by former President Olusegun Obasanjo and others.

In a statement on Wednesday, Obasanjo had dismissed the trip, saying: “For whatever the meeting (between President Buhari and U.S. President Donald Trump) was worth, President Buhari again bungled another opportunity to self-redeem.”

But in the statement titled: “Takeaways from the auspicious meeting between Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Donald Trump,” Shehu said the visit would strengthen ties between both countries.

Shehu said his write up was informed by the position of “the opponents of this administration, who have prayed and prayed very hard that our President in the course of his historic visit to the White House on Monday, April 30, 2018, would stumble badly or come back with nothing.

“President Buhari, to the disappointment of this group, delivered a calm, brilliant performance. He refused to be provoked and did not get angry at the taunting. He instead turned his attention to the task at hand and at the end, came home satisfied that he got everything he wanted from the US administration.

“The Rose Garden worked out very much for him as a routine engagement, certainly not like the make-or-break meeting as some wanted it to be.

“It is also important that records be set straight to counter the mischief of opponents, some of whom have started rendering false narratives of a meeting to which they were neither invited nor in any way aware of its details.

“The meeting of the two leaders happened in three phases. First, the one-on-one in which only the two of them were present. Then they had a working lunch, each leader accompanied by 10 top officials. President Buhari had with him the governors of Ogun and Plateau; the ministers of Foreign Affairs, Justice, Industry, Trade and Investment; the chairpersons of Senate and House of Representatives committees on international relations; the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, NIA; the Chief of Defence Staff and Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States.

“The US President had more-or-less the same representation, except that the Secretary of State who just got cleared for the job by the Senate hadn’t assumed office, so he was represented by the Deputy Secretary of State.

“President Trump also brought with him the Director of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) which I must emphasise, is significant to Nigeria given the fact that the U.S. remains the largest contributor to the on-going effort to reconstruct the Northeast and resettle its millions of displaced persons.

“The third engagement involving the two leaders was the joint press conference by the leaders, aired live by some major television networks across the world.”

On the gains of the meeting, Shehu wrote: “The two parties had agreed before the meeting that discussions will be on three key issues, namely security/counter terrorism, trade, and development of democracy in Nigeria.

“On security, the Nigerian delegation was pleased from the onset that the Trump administration had agreed to the major sale of military equipment to Nigeria. Team Nigeria was equally pleased about the much-increased role of the US in assisting the efforts to defeat terrorism in Nigeria and the Lake Chad region in general.

“The President expressed appreciation for these and requested additional support to counter insurgency.

“On the specific issue of the sale of the 12 Super Tucano A-29 warplanes and weapons to Nigeria to effectively fight terrorism, President Buhari told his American counterpart that we are pleased with this, but want delivery to be fast-tracked, given the security situation in the country.

“Expectedly, President Trump said yes to this, and, additionally promised the sale of helicopters and about just everything President Buhari wanted.

“Still on President Buhari’s meeting with Trump, it is important to explain the context of the remarks by President Trump where he was quoted as saying the U.S is concerned about the murder or killing, as he put it, of Christians. At the press conference, President Trump, towards the end of his remarks, mentioned the protection of ‘innocent civilians of all faiths, including Muslims and Christians’, which reporters left out.”

Shehu added: “In his remarks, the US President neither chided nor talked down on President Buhari. Saying that ‘we will do something about that,’ is a clear expression of willingness to support Nigeria to bring to an end the unwanted killings. This is contrary to the press reporting which jumped on the issue, conveying a wrong impression that President Trump was only concerned about the lives of Christians. He mentioned Muslim lives as well.

”Equally wrong was the hasty condemnation of the U.S. President by some Muslim groups in the country without the benefit of a full view and understanding of what was said and the context in which it was said.

“The President also conveyed the country’s appreciation for the U.S. support for the humanitarian situation in the Northeast, with a contribution of 500 million US Dollars in cash and in-kind contributions, the highest by anyone, through the United Nations and other inter-governmental organisations.

”But the scope of work to be done is larger than anyone had envisaged and Nigeria wanted the US to do more. President Trump didn’t say no, only that he wanted more access to the Nigerian market for their agricultural goods.

“For a country which we assist with USD 1 billion dollars every year, you must do more to open the market to us,” Trump said. These are matters to be debated and resolved.

“This leads us to the next important issue- Trade. Pointedly, President Trump did not mince words when he said: ‘‘President Buhari has also taken several steps to fight corruption and improve the Nigerian business climate. And most of all to me — and again — is ripping down those trade barriers. These measures will make it easier for Nigeria and the United States companies to invest. And we will be investing substantially in Nigeria if they can create that level playing field that we have to very much ask for, and maybe demand.

“With the blessing of the two leaders, assets recovery is also getting a major boost. The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, was directed to sit down with Jeff Sessions, his US counterpart, to have a roadmap for the recovery of USD 500 million of Nigerian stolen assets hidden in the US. They will also finalise on the return of USD 1 million of the Diepreye Alamieyeseigha loot.

“Immediately after the bilateral engagement, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Geoffrey Onyeama and Minister of Justice, Malami, met with their U.S. counterparts. In the months ahead, the Minister for Industry, Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah, will also meet with his U.S. counterpart, Wilbur Ross.

“When he was asked if Nigeria had succeeded in getting America to buy more of our oil, President Buhari said he did not. We have others buying our oil. Must we sell to a particular buyer?

“This government will smartly work with the current American government, knowing that American interests are not always ours, as a strategic partner on security, anti-corruption economic growth and job creation.”

PoliticsEnd Herdsmen Killings Now, If You Are Not Their Sponsor – PFN Tells Nigerian Gov by 13Ebisco(op): 8:59pm On May 03, 2018
Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), South-South region, has accused the Federal Government of supporting the wanton killings by herdsmen in some states of the Middle-Belt.

The Christian body said the Nigerian government should prove its allegation wrong by ending the spate of killings across the country in two weeks.

The Vice President (South-South) of the PFN, Bishop Simeon Okah, made the allegation on Thursday, at a press briefing held at the headquarters of Flock of Christ Mission, Enerhen town in Delta State.

The cleric, who insisted that people in government knew the identity of the killers, called on the nation’s security chiefs to resign, having failed in their duties to protect lives of Nigerians.

He lauded President Donald Trump of the United States of America (USA), for tasking President Buhari to end the killing of Christians and other Nigerians across the country.

His words, “The federal government, from the least to the top, knows where the forces killing these people come from and if their hands are not in it, they should stop it.

“In another two weeks, if these killings don’t stop, Nigerians should know that the Federal Government has refused to address the issue.

“Buhari is a retired general and what some of us thought he is, if we didn’t over-value him, he has what it takes to stop this whole thing in one week.

“The storehouses where these arms are piled are all over the country, not only in the Middle belt, even in Delta here; the country is not safe. There are arms piled up everywhere.

“Where do herdsmen get money to buy AK47? How many cows will you sell to buy one?” he queried.

The cleric joined other notable Nigerians to call on all the service chiefs to resign their appointments having failed in their duty to stop the pogrom in the country.

“Those who have been calling for the sack of the military chiefs have their reasons; our security chiefs can’t deny that they don’t know the source arming these people.

“They can’t deny that some of them are the ones who gave these people those arms.

“If that in Nigeria nobody resigns, even when they are failing, by now our top security chiefs ought to have all resigned and I’m not talking just about the army; all of them, including the DSS and the police, are there.

“It’s only the junior ones who don’t know, the top class knows where arms are piled, they know where they came from,” he noted.

The fiery man of God further alleged that the grand plan of the killers in the Middle-Belt is to wipe out those who mention the name of Jesus, urging Trump to take Buhari to task in preventing this.

“What I will like Trump to still understand, for now, the concentration is on the Middle-Belt, they want to see how everybody who mentions Jesus, in the whole Middle-Belt, is to be cleared, quote me, if anybody doubts me, by the grace of God I can stand and give prove.

“Why some of us are feeling concerned is because the people in the Middle-Belt are not animals, they are not birds or chickens.

“The issue is not just because they are Christians, but because they are human beings.

“That’s why I said Trump tried, but he will still have to call him because apart from the Middle-Belt you all know that there’s killing all around this country,” he averred.

However, Bishop Okah acknowledged that before President Buhari came on board, there were kidnappings, Boko Haram insurgency as well as armed robberies, “but you will agree with me that these last three years all these things have increased.”

The prosecutor, Insp. Pogu Lale, told the court that one Muhammad Sani of the same address with the defendant reported the case at Mandawari Police Division, Kano, on April 24.
