Discipline is the act of training people to obey rules or code of behavior.

How To Discipline
Corrective discipline that influences the development of good character should be taught early in life. A child probably begins to learn basic behaviors that will guide his eating, resting, hygiene and play from as early as birth. This learning continues throughout life. As the child grows, he will acquire all the behavioral principles in all areas of life which will help him face the responsibilities and crisis that life bring to him.

A part of discipline that is extremely important is emotional support. This is the emotional tone used when disciplining a child. As a parent when last did you give a kiss to your child or have you hugged your child and told him or her how much you love him. Some of us have never done that before while some can not remember when last they did show such love to their child. It is important to note that the closeness of a child to its parent can go a long way in the behavior of that child. A child who is close to his parent will not want to do anything to hurt his parent, thereby creating self discipline just to remain loved by his parent.

Efectively, in human relationships, rational argument are often insufficient. Love is necessary and if love is absent from disciplining, it's absence invalidates all the good results that it could give. Apostle Paul wrote:" Put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity" (Col. 3:14). A love like that have the capability of moving hearts, healing wounds and changing human being.

Precautions Relating To Discipline

Avoid over protective and permissive attitudes: This attitude result from misunderstanding of what love is. However they damage the character and constitute barriers when the child, at maturity, has to face setbacks, strains or make basic choices.
Avoid harsh attitudes: This position of negative and hard parents who do not allow for discussions, and who impose their will and do not respect the child's individuality. This parental behavior causes disastrous result in a child because it belittles its personality, squaches his will and produces feeling of anxiety, inhibition and mistrust.

Avoid criticism, accusations, suspicions and hateful comparisions: This attitude does not contribute to a climate oft understanding and only produces effects contrary to those desired such as obstinacy, rebellion, timidness or attitudes of apathy and indifference, what is worse, these carry inside continous feeling of rejection towards their parents.
Use firmness and understanding: A firm but understanding attitude that respect the will of the child and which uses methods of persuasion and reason offers a just means of discipline. When parents work within this balance, growing children begin to understand and accept the causes and effect of their behaviors. In this way, the learn to appreciate the need for discipline.
