1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.

4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name( A shem), lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

5 And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men buildeth.

6 And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.

8 So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

Whatever the Abrahamic religions have pretended to be, the above passages in Genesis clearly portrays and betrays them for what they really are: a tool for for division and confusion that robs humanity of dignity, freedom and the use of his thinking and creative abilities.

It is quite interesting here, and even shocking that we see an omni omni designer and creator of the universe expressing deep fears and insecurities about the adventurous spirit and creative and collaborative potential of a free and united humanity.
He then openly discusses with his colleagues, or the two other parts of himself, as trinitarians would make us believe, to confound, confuse, divide and seperate humanity simply out of fear.
The gods were afraid, the gods were insecure about the power and potential of the human intellect.
If that does not strike everyone as odd, then nothing will.

Now Fast forward to circa 1998, many many millenia later:

So, After eons of time swimming in the dark waters of ignorance and superstition, humankind has slowly bu t gradually woken up, stretched out hands of friendship and unity, and spoken , once again, with one loud voice to say; Yes we can, yes we can build ourselves a SHEM(rocketships) to reach the heavens, and occupy our rightful place as children and citizens of the stars.

Lets all give a standing ovation for the human rebellious spirit, human ingenuity and human collaborative potential and human unity.

Lol, At last something fun. @op, the story of the tower of babel speaks volumes about the bible and it's stories. Let's look at it from a metaphorical perspective and from a literal one.

From the literal one, how could a God be scared of people building a tower that would get high into the heavens, how feasible is that. Unless the writers of the bible believed that the biblical God was residing in the skies and that if the tower could get high enough into the skies it would inadvertently get to heaven and meet the Gods,

And from the metaphorical perspective, this story goes to show that from the biblical God's perspective, there is no freewill, unlike christians say, the biblical God curbed what he considered was the excesses of the children of men, he did not want their knowledge to be broadened, he wanted them to still remain in an ignorant state, and that my brethren, speaks volumes about the kind of deity the biblical God is.

Certainly that god isn't a spirit. Spirits got no interest in anything like the Tower of Babel. That god was in plural( gods). They called them gods because they had advanced technology that baffled the primitive men. Imagine us today finding out the planet where the christian gods operated from. That would be awesome! Will make the christians and muslims look silly. Then we will find the burial tomb of the famous yahweh

On the last shuttle disaster some years ago, a famous Moslem cleric was celebrating because he had reasoned that god had not given us permission to leave the earth.
