I was privilege to be at a site where a Chinese man was the on-site supervisor. A call came in, and he had to leave the premises to attend to a very important matter. Unfortunately, the company vehicle which brought him to the site was unavailable and he had to miss the appointment because he could not get there in time. Normally, an average Nigerian would have taken a bus or at worst, go for a bike (Okada).

Now, I have heard countless number of tales of Mayors in foreign countries taking the subway or using other public transport means to get to work so its not as if Nigeria is the only place with public buses. My question is, why is it that you hardly see foreigners using public transport in Nigeria? Granted that what goes for public buses in Nigeria are rickety at best and our transport system needs a lot of work but what about the BRTs? Are they also not good for foreigners? Please share your thoughts.

Not everyone has the luxury of time to wait for public buses, stand on a long queue, stop every ten seconds to pick or drop passenger, etc. The attitude of bus conductors and passengers is a total turn-off. And don't forget that most of these foreigners do not understand the pidgin language or local dialects.
