Fire yesterday gutted the customer care section of Globacom office situated along Aminu Kano Crescent, Abuja, destroying properties worth several thousands of naira.

The fire which started around 3pm alerted a huge crowd of men of Federal Fire Service, Nigerian Army, Civil Defense Officers and Nigerian Police Force who tried to save the situation.

According to an eye witness, the fire started shortly after the customer care officers closed for the day’s work.“The customer care officer closed around 2pm. Shortly after they left, smoke was seen coming out from the customer care section which is on the ground floor. The fire service were quickly alerted. However, before the firemen arrived, we couldn’t do much because the whole place was locked up”.

The circumstances surrounding the fire incident is not yet confirmed. However, a staff who spoke with LEADERSHIP Sunday but pleaded anonymity stated that the fire was caused by an electrical fault. According to him, “there was an electrical fault yesternight but it was rectified.

Probably, it started again when the workers closed this afternoon, but the cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed. But we thank God that the fire did not reach the power battery, because the whole building would have exploded.

One of the men of the Federal Fire service who also pleaded anonymity confirmed that the fire started on the ground floor adding that the timely intervention of the men of fire service stopped the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.
