The Group of Twenty Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (also known as the G-20, G20, and Group of Twenty) is a group of finance ministers and central bank governors from 20 major economies: 19 countries plus the European Union, which is represented by the President of the European Council and by the European Central Bank.[2] The G-20 heads of government or heads of state have also periodically conferred at summits since their initial meeting in 2008. Collectively, the G-20 economies account for approximately 80 percent of the gross world product (GWP),[3] 80 percent of world trade (including EU intra-trade), and two-thirds of the world population.[2]

The G-20 was proposed by former Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin[4] as a forum for cooperation and consultation on matters pertaining to the international financial system. The group was formally inaugurated in September 1999, and held its first meeting in December 1999. It studies, reviews, and promotes high-level discussion of policy issues pertaining to the promotion of international financial stability, and seeks to address issues that go beyond the responsibilities of any one organization. With the G-20 growing in stature after the 2008 Washington summit, its leaders announced on 25 September 2009, that the group would replace the G8 as the main economic council of wealthy nations.[5] Since its inception, the G-20's membership policies have been criticized by numerous intellectuals,[6][7] and its summits have been a focus for major protests.[8]

The heads of the G-20 nations met biannually at G-20 summits between 2008 and 2011. Since the November 2011 Cannes summit, all G-20 summits have been held annually.[2] Russia currently holds the chair of the G-20, and will host the eighth G-20 summit in September 2013.[9]

Only serious countries and politicians are invited.
OBJ was always invited because he has international clout.
The American will always be grateful to OBJ for keeping the oil flowing during the oil crisis of the 70's.
Nigeria under this president however has become relegate to a inconsequential country.
What does nigeria have to offer in terms of global events like Syria , chemical weapons or even Mali and Congo .
We cannot even deal with boko haram.
The perception you get is that world leaders do not want to be associated with him.
You may want to ask whether going is necessary.
Well OBJ got debt relief from lobbying these same leaders.

So our being ''consequential'' to you is dependent on our satisfying some American need, as opposed to our own national development objectives?

Shows the sorry, slave mentality of many of your ilk.

Can you please get rid of your FUC.KING inferiority complex, or confine that SHIIT to your bedroom or toilet??

Oh.. so they ''invited'' Senegal and Tanzania? Did they ''invite'' Ghana? What about Morocco? Algeria? Angola? Namibia? Ethiopia? Egypt?

Are those countries going around lamenting their 'demise' because they weren't ''invited'' by ''the big boys'' to a summit?

You've really no clue how PATHETIC you sound. You need others to validate you first before you can validate yourself.

I hope he brings Aki and Paw and P-square , those guys export movies and songs worth billions of dollars and they employ thousands of Nigerians too. grin grin grin grin grin

keep vomiting your rubbish..it does'nt change the fact that your president runs a deeply flawed foreign policy with no direction or vision. Just utter idiocy all the way...since you're such a faithful lapdog to your master, can you articulate his foreign policy agenda? What does he think is nigeria's place in the world?

I'd rather be a lapdog to the Nigerian president than be a lapdog to G20 leaders, crying to the world that they did not ''invite'' me to their gathering. I'm sure Mr President realises that ''Nigeria's place in the world'' is determined by Nigeria's place IN NIGERIA FIRST. In other words, Develop Nigeria, THEN the world will take notice even without us playing ''underdeveloped attache'' at G20 meetings. And THAT he is doing.

No, you are Obama's lapdog, as well as Putin's, Merkel's and Cameron's - the people you worship. What is their agenda for you? Dummy dum dum.
very funny, mr idiot, i see you have nothing better to say again so you decend into this shambolic statement. Goodluck jonathan and olubenga ashiru are a useless lot, foreign policy amateurs, with no vision or goal. Speaking of lapdogs, i belive you're talking of a guy named goodluck jonathan who has never recieved a state welcome at the white house. Rather he is snucked in through the east diplomatic entrance like the leader of a failed state, yet he still runs when summoned by his masters in washington.

Even the late president Yaradua was invited to the G-20 meeting in Germany despite his sickness. Jonathan need to up his game when it comes to foreign policy decisions. Nigeria cannot afford to continue to be ignored among the comity of nations.

Many times i wonder where we got it wrong. Is it at the level economic advancement, leadership commitment, or general politicking. The said embarrasment is starring on us. We are too big a nation to be kicked aside in a scheme of things. This a clear indication that we need to urgently put our house inorder by engaging in meaningful economic policies that will transformed life. All the unnecessary beckering to curry political favour is uncalled for. The world recognise excellence when ever they see one.

meaning jonathan is the nigerian leader, does that mean i voted for him or support him? How does that make me a follower? If a leader is elected by 55% of the population. Does he reflex the views of the rest 49%. Think!!
