First of all run a scan on your MPV (it will cost you about 5-10K) to determine the actual cause of the problem. Secondly, get a competent Gear-master to interpret the scan result and fix the problem accordingly. If the scan didn't detect any electrical issues with the transmission, then it (transmission) should be serviced with the recommended transmission fluid. Check the user manual for the recommended transmission fluid.

Thanks igomen, the problem Ȋ̝̊̅§ finding a competent mechanic in my area. They are all advocates of toyota. Please do you know how much the gearbox will cost? Some are saying nazda are easy to maintain but i'm yet to believe it!

Do transporters use Mazda MPV for business?

Anyway, a guy in NL who owns an MPV gave me a phone number of a guy in Lagos who sells Mazda MPV parts. You can call him to find out the cost of gear box and other things. I have NOT met the seller my self. It is equally good if you can report back to the house with your findings.

I called the guy so he told me the price but i want to know if i can remedy the current situation before i decide to get a new gearbox cuz the price no be here brothers. Anyway thanks.i will keep the house posted on every outcome.but keep more advice coming in!!!

I called the man he said the price is 45k for white cover and 130k for black cover and mine is black cover. The problem is where to do the scan, I probly have to go to benin city to do that. The thing is the problem started immediately I changed my engine, I have a feeling it have to do with the engine. Well thanks, I will keep u guys posted. I can't get the user manual to know the recommended transmission fluid, can u help me wit that? Thanks.

I have discovered that you must have a good mechanic who knows about that type of car to really enjoy it especially when you want to use it for transport business.

However, i was told by somebody that some people are using it for business (Lagos - Ilorin route) and they load around Ijora, Lagos. They could be of help if you can contact them.

@IdaraCHODB Yes, it seems MPV and Sienna 2001 have almost same in terms of fuel economy but maintenance wise, sienna might be more expensive.

Thanks for your time to respond. Cud ve replied earlier but was engrossed on my graduation and the groove that comes with it.
Anyway, the O/D off light Ȋ̝̊̅§ on, i tried puTting it off but won't. When the problem started, i took the car for servicing of the transmission and the filter was cleaned but the problem still persist. The jumping occurs when changing from gear one to two and when i slow down too much, the car may refuse to leave gear one except i off and on the car again. I just gradutated and i only have this car so i felt i can use it to start my dream business which Ȋ̝̊̅§ transportation. Please if any feels i shudn't use it wit reasons, feel free to tell me so that i won't end up making a mistake. Thanks. Keep the advice coming in!!!

I just stumbled upon this on mpvclub.com on O/D flashlight interpretation and i guess its similar to my situation and it correlates with odaraCHODB sugggestion.

Below are some useful links for you. But the upshot is that occasionally we may all experience this flashing if for some reason we happen to not have the gear shift lever in exactly the right position, which confuses the computer. However, if this becomes a recurring problem then some adjustment or replacement of the gear shift lever, linkage cable, or position sensor may be in order.

Once i have good cash with me, i will do a thorough scan on the car.

But the thing Ȋ̝̊̅§, it adviseable to use the mazda mpv auto fot transportation business, warri-abuja route to be precised?

Mazda recommended atf are Mazda ATF III and ATF M-V. I have 5 bottles of Amsoil synthetic ATF that meets this ATF III and M-V spec, if interested, contact me.

So why did you change your engine and did you replace with the same mazda engine or different 2.5v6/3.0v6.

Are all the harness connected. The mechanic who advised you to change engine got paid now you are in a worse spot.
If the engine was the problem you will have no problem but now you will keep going back until you get tired and sell the car for peanuts to him

I changed engine cuz my gasket got burnt and the engine was badly affected.

I guess the gasket got burnt because the car overheat. Why did the car overheat?

What type of engine came with the car and what type of engine did you replace it with?

The overheating was caused by a bent host so water cud not flow thru it when i drove down from lagos to auchi 6hrs. But the funny tin was i stopped at ore, checked the engine and water level and everyting was ok and the temperature gauge was at D̶̲̥̅̊ middle until i got to ekpoma before i noticed.

It was the same engine i replaced with.
Its a 2001 model.

You need to scan it.

I want to know if you have code P0715 which relates to a problem with the Input Turbine Speed Sensor:

That is one possible cause of your problem

You might want to replace that part, I could help you get it if that's the problem with your Mazda but I can't really say.

Anytime you make it to Abuja, (since you want to do Warri- Abuja) I can direct you to someone who will fix the problem for you.

But I strongly feel it might be the above issue that will solve your O/D Off issue.

Please tell me is there ever a time when you drive without the O/D off showing?

Also take not of Sultaan's suggestion, maybe there is a harness that isn't connected.

And one more thing, if you ever change an engine, please do not sell the previous engine for peanuts, because there might be parts from the previous that you might need and which will cost you a fortune to buy otherwise

You can achieve mpg of up to 25 to 26.8 with your mpv if you 1. accelerate speedily to 60 mph and stay there ; 2. avoid braking as much as possible.

Which means it can be an economical transporter.
