Hello Peeps, am thinking of buying a 406 for my first car... I would like to know what it would cost for an automatic And a manual tokunbo 406 for comparison and also which you think is better... Would you recommend this for a first timer? Looking forward to your replies...

Go for d peugeot 406 EW10 engine, 4plugs, manual. 2002-2003 model. U will not regeret it. Iv been using one for more than a year now. It beats my expectations. It a very strong car and can speed very well. Parts are available and very cheap and I have a very good mechanic.

Your questions were not answered because they have been treated over and over again in that thread. If you had spent 10-20 mins in going through the thread, you wouldn't posted that questions.

Anyway, you didn't state what phase of 406 that interest you? D8 or D9? This is something you ought to have known since you have visited the Peugeot house. There are lots of information for everyone who is interested in any Peugeot product in that house. I can guess to know which phase that interest you, so i will pick one and treat.

If you interested in D9, and as your first car, stay away from auto tranny D9.

D9 has 2 auto trannies: 4HP20 & AL4. AL4 it's an expensive tranny to run. The recommend fluid is not available in Nigeria, unless you plan to ship in from Europe. And when something goes wrong in it, it will need a specialist to rebuild it. Not every auto tranny repairer can overhaul AL4. Even in Abuja, we are yet to find one who can rebuild AL4. The AL4 was co-produced by Peugeot, Renault & Siemen.

4HP20 is less wahala to own/drive. But then, it's still prone to unexpected failure, just like every other auto trannies in other car brands.

If it must be auto tranny, stay away from Peugeot 406 then. You can try the Japs.

As for the D9 engine best suited for a beginner, get XU10, EW 7 or EW 10. But if you think you are a heavy right footed, then EW 12 will best suit you, but special attention is needed to own it.

D9 V6 is out of the question for a bigginer.
