is it advisable in buying kia rio 2005 over toyota/honda of 99s model

A colleague owns one at work, he has been using it for close to a year now (since shipping it fairly used from the US) he never stops singing praises of the car.. About how he never has issues with it beside servicing. However I uses it as a commute car for the most part in Abuja and hasn't really used it for long or inter state commutes. Generally from what I have seen about kia cars.. They are quite reliable and will serve u well provided u stick to the maintenance schedule.. A friend's rio 2010 got its engine blown yesterday cus he forgot to change oil as at when due..
