Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State yesterday explained that the State government is still expecting certification from International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) in Canada to enable them airlift intending pilgrims to Saudi Arabia from Bauchi International Airport.
The Governor gave the explanation when he delivered a farewell address to 2,920 intending pilgrims from Bauchi State.
He said, “with good intention, the state government had spent 16 months making effort to build this international airport. President Goodluck Jonathan gave approval for the airlifting of intending pilgrims from our newly built airport in Bauchi State. But man proposes, God disposes. We have put in best facilities. But we are yet to get approval of the International Regulations Agency, ICAO”.
Yuguda expressed optimism that if the state government gets the ICAO approval, the intending pilgrims will return through Bauchi airport.
He assured the intending pilgrims that the State government had made adequate arrangements to take care of welfare of pilgrims both at home and in Saudi Arabia.
He advised the intending pilgrims to be good ambassadors of the State by demonstrating a decent behaviour and warned them to avoid vices such as drug trafficking, indecent dressing and use of abusive language.
The Emir of Bauchi, who is the State’s Amirul Hajj, assured their commitment to ensure a hitch-free hajj exercise.
He advised pilgrims to pray for peace and stability in the State and the country at large.
