Sometimes I feel rage, pure anger
On days when I'm watching my favourite TV show and the lights go out
When I'm sleeping in darkness and the mosquitoes are disturbing
I want to cover myself but then I'm enveloped with sweat
Days when I have to throw out good food cause the refrigerator has no memory of when it last came on

I look up pictures of old classmates in schools abroad
Smiles and graduation gowns
I'm home, not for holidays but cause our teachers are fighting for another list of wants to be granted
Slowing my academic life down

There's crime on our streets
Corruption in our hearts
Envy in our eyes
We want to be better than the guy next door
"I beta pass my neighbour"
We rant and rave about our leaders
How they've destroyed our country and stolen all our money
Forgetting that a leader reflects the community who chose him

We don't have the best health care systems
Most of our roads are adorned with pot-holes
The margin between the rich and poor widens with each passing day
Still we've been named the Happiest People on Earth
Is it because of our faith in the invisible?
Or because every man hopes for a better tomorrow even if the sunset isn't certain?
There's nowhere else we can call "home"
Nowhere in the world where we'll be treated as first-class citizens
We still throw the biggest and best parties
Dancing and drinking like there's no tomorrow

Maybe it's because we don't have natural disasters
Or because we know our problems are man-made
Without hope, we're nothing
So we keep fighting
We keep praying
For we know that someday soon
"E go better".
