Advertising is the main source of income from blogging and web publishing in Nigeria. However, unless you are Linda or Seun, getting regular adverts on your website is hit or miss. If you use google adwords on your website, they offer pay per click adverts and you are likely to get banned when your click to impression ratio starts to rise.

The days of fooling advertisers with high alexa or number of twitter followers are numbered. Anybody can buy it now.

What advertisers want is traffic.Real people seeing their adverts. The alternative is CPM adverts that pay per 1000 impressions. Currently, foreign advert networks pay based on which country you are in. S1 for USA, Canada and Europe, 0.35 for Africa. You can not expect to make money from USA adverts of a company that has no customers in Nigeria What we need is a Nigerian advert network that will pay publishers well based on their traffic.

When we have such an advert network, Plcs and Telecom companies will be willing to advertise on your website because they expect real traffic, real eyeballs will see their website. Then, we can negotiate in bulk for higher CPM.
