A new United Nation’s backed study ranks Sweden as the best place in the world to grow old. This is followed by Norway, Germany, Netherlands and Canada. The United States is placed in the 8th position while the United Kingdom did not even make the top 10.

In contrast, just as Nigeria celebrates her 53rd Independence anniversary, the UN study ranked Nigeria as the sixth worst country to grow old. The Global AgeWatch Index ranked a total of 91 countries, with Nigeria ranked 85th, the sixth worst! Afghanistan is ranked the worst country to grow old in.

Is this also politically motivated? Is this good news? Was the report sponsored by detractors or the ‘’Opposition’’? Why must Nigeria always be associated with infamy?
