There are many reasons why there is a high rate of unmarried big girls in Nigeria. Many, mostly men are still baffled why most girls don't seem at all interested in marriage. Is it pretense or is it that most don't really care.

BELIEFS ABOUT MARRIAGE ARE CHANGING:
Back in the days you must be married to be seen as responsible. Well, not anymore! More women are turning out on top of their careers and other women are beginning to see them as role models. One of such women is the celebrated talk show host billionaire Oprah Winfrey who recently said she will likely leave this world as "a never married woman" and instead of condemnation most people saw nothing wrong in her decision. Wake up! This is the new reality. For most modern women, marriage sucks!

THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH GOOD MEN:
Some cite this as the reason most eligible women are still single. They are somewhat correct. Men in general especially in Nigeria have not really woken up to the realization that times have changed. They still have a traditional opinion about marriage, even the educated ones who should know better are no different. Women are becoming more assertive and more confident of their gender . While some men still find it offensive and derogatory to be approached by a woman for a relationship, their female counterparts finds nothing wrong with it. And indeed global trends supports the women. Again some men have proven to be unrepentant jerks. With wife battery and abuse still on the high side most women are afraid of getting into a marital relationship. Also research has proven that ladies who grew up in a home where their father abuses their mothers were more likely to be cautious about marriage.

True Points.
Most women these days find it hard to be submissive and men due to ego cannot tolerate such attitude thereby dumping the women without considering marriage.
Comingdown to Nigeria ladies these days, they so much believe in the western culture that that want to shave off tradition,a married woman is seen as a responsible woman and no matter how western you feel you are,you cannot kill tradition.
Indeed good men are scarce, this remains the first and major problem most women face today, series of heartbreakers, womanisers, gold diggers and many more.

Nigerians should stop deceiving themselves with their crappy marriages that are ridden in infidelity, servitude/borderline slavery, STDs, oppression, etc. There is noting responsible about the average Nigerian married man and/or woman. Go and see the number of Nigerian married men carrying girls up and down the place especially the rich married men while putting their spouses at risk of contacting STD. Marriage is suppose to be between a man and his wife. In Nigeria however, marriage has turned into something else. How many Nigerians will stay married to an impotent/barren spouse? How many Nigerian men will stay with a wife who only bore female children without marrying a second wife? Most Nigerians give the marriage institution a bad name. You will come to discover that a person who never fornicated has a better chance of making heaven than the married people who go about committing adultery in secret why pretending to be responsible in the eyes of society.
