Lights,
Camera And Clarence
Peters!

When you think about Music
Videos in Nigeria, the default
icon your mind select is
definitely Clarence Peters.

Some have said in the past
that he is one of the best
directors in the country but
if he isn’t ‘the’ best then
who is better?

Music Video Director and CEO
of Record label CAPital Hill
Records, he started his
career early in life and this
afforded him the chance to
build a staggeringly
intimidating résumé.

Apart
from being a director in the
recent times, he has been an
actor,assistant director,
director of photography,
post-production supervisor,
continuity personnel,and all-
round handyman on set in
time past.
Interestingly, he
never set out to be a music
video director.
All the works
he did as a child, leading up
to adulthood, were in television and film.
He has
worked with notable names in
the business such as Tajudeen
Adepetu on several shows;he
directed about 40 episodes of
the TV series "Everyday
People" while working with
the Soundcity boss and also with DJ TEE.
This gave
him a balanced platform that
set him for a career as a
movie and television drama
director.

Born to Clarence popular
Nollywood actress Clarion
Chukwura and Afrojuju
initiator, Shina Peters, Clarion
Chukwura gave birth to
Clarence Peters when she
was 17 through the romance
between her and Shina
Peters.
Little Clarence took
on cinematography at the
tender age of 14.
He
attended Government College,
Ikorodu and Camp David
Academy Secondary School,
Ogba.
After years of working
with Tajudeen Adepetu,he
moved to South Africa where
he attended the City-Varsity
Summon Television Academy in
Cape Town and gained a
degree in directing and
cinematography. On returning
to Nigeria,he hooked up with
Darey to direct the video for
the song “Fuji” which became
the first music video he
directed.
He also established
CAPital Hill Records with his
secondary school mate and
friend,Tha Suspect who is
also an artiste under the
label.

Six out of every 10 videos on
television has got Clarence’s
name on it. He has directed
such videos as, Bracket’s
“Remember,” 9ice's “Street
Credibility,” “Only Me” by
2face, Camp Mulla’s “Party
Don’t Stop and “Hold It
Down,”Chidinma’s “Kedike,” P-
Square’s “Alingo”alongside
Jude Engees Okoye,and most
recently Kay Switch’S “Sister
Caro and Flavour "Ada Ada".

Though titled with “Music
Video Director” and “Record
Label C.E.O”, Peters is yet
unsatisfied. Film and television
are his next conquests.
Having started out in these
fields but veering off, he aims
to take on a television
project by the middle of the
year and by so doing,
readying himself for what he
refers to as ‘the ultimate,’
what he believes is his true
calling – film.
Amongst his awards include
Director of the year at the
Nigerian Music Video Awards
2008 and the Best Music
Video at the HipHop world
Awards (Headies) 2010.
