Random post : aigoo i really wanted to watch nobody knows when it aired cos of my oppa Ryu deok hwan but somehow I totally forgot about it's airing date. When I finally remembered, they were in episode 8 and I felt too lazy to binge from the beginning. I downloaded the episodes and kept pushing it forward but I guess the time has come for me to watch it. I hope I enjoy it

So I really didn't expect that I'd like this one as much as I did. It started out sort of dry and I thought I'd have to tolerate 16 episodes of bleh but I later found myself enjoying it. I do think the writer spent too much time trying to make the drama funny that it sort of ruined some aspects for me. Like the whole misunderstanding was dragged on for so long just so the drama could continue being funny and even though it was fun to watch, it was still annoying cos they were silly misunderstandings. In fact the 2nd leads didn't sort out their misunderstanding till the very last episode which was just mtcheww. Also the rape aspect wasn't really handled seriously, they just sort of glossed over it. Anyway I still liked the drama sha, I don't think I can ever re-watch it but it was ok

Ljy is an architect. We see her showing a woman around a house she renovated and it's clear she's very good at her job.
She goes into an antique shop where she's friends with the owner, apparently she buys interior decorations from the shop for her work. There's a record player that she really likes at the shop, she calls it her baby and takes pictures of it on her phone. The shop owner tells her to just buy it instead of always drooling over it. Ljy says she'll buy it when she gets married cos her place is too shabby for it, for a treasure like this I need a living room, it should be on vintage hardwood furniture with natural lighting and ventilation. The shop owner laughs at ljy's obsession and asks her if she'd like to write an essay, she has a friend who's an editor for some home and lifestyle magazine who is accepting essays from people who work in architecture and design. Ljy says she's just an assistant architect and can't write for such a big magazine. Shop owner says she already told the editor that ljy would do it so she should get ready. Ljy reluctantly asks what the theme is and shop owner says "the home of my life".
We see her writing the essay, she talks about how a person's house is their universe, her job as an architect is to create other people's universes but her own universe is a makeshift realm with compromises and cheap furniture (just so it's clear, she's a struggling junior architect that lives in a shabby apartment cos she's broke). She receives a call from a real estate agent informing her that her rent is being increased.

She's at her boyfriend kjy's place. He asks her if she can afford to pay her rent, she says she can't. He says he has a good idea, she says I hope you're not about to suggest a campervan, I don't know why you like living in a tent. Kjy says sales require user experience (lol he lives in a tent at his workplace). He asks what she'll do next and she says I have to look for a new place, and I didn't plan to move until I got married. He says then maybe it's time. She asks for what? He opens a tin and brings out a case containing a pair of couple rings and says for marriage. Marry me (Awwn he's cute) we were thinking about it anyway. Instead of struggling separately, we can live together under the same roof.

We see her at home continuing her writing happily "marriage will start a new chapter in my life, with a new house in tow, two homes becoming one, forming our universe".

She's at work preparing to leave and join her boyfriend to go househunting. A colleague of hers tells her he's stressed out by a client, she's young and very picky, she doesn't like anything about his work, he asks ljy if she'd like to take over the project since she has high tastes and is around the same age as the client.

She agrees and goes to see the house, it's really beautiful, elite and expensive basically like owning a home in the Hamptons or something like that. The client comes and ljy (her name is soo ah) is about to introduce herself when she realizes the client is someone she knows. Her former high school classmate juyeon who's now a flight attendant. They go to a Cafe to catch up and juyeon congratulates soo ah on becoming an architect like she's wanted since high school. Soo ah says juyeon is the one living well since she's about to move into the beautiful house as a newly wed. Juyeon says her parents bought them the house since they're getting a doctor as a son in law, that was the dowry her in laws demanded. They said its perfect for kids since there are good schools around. Juyeon asks what's up with soo ah and she says she hasn't set a date yet but will be getting married soon. Juyeon asks if she's started looking for a house yet and soo ah says she'll start that day. Juyeon excitedly tells her to move into the same neighborhood since it's close to her workplace (me: Lmao did you give her money?) soo ah just fake smiles.

Soo ah meets up with her boyfriend for the house hunting and tells him about her friend, he tells her he thinks it's a good idea to help her friend. They get to an apartment but she doesn't like it cos it's old, she asks the realtor to show her new houses, they see one, she likes it but it's too expensive. Lol they end the day fruitless (*sigh* just another day of househunting in Lagos lol). Kjy tries to cheer her up telling her that even rich people find it hard to rent a place. She says she's not looking for anything too fancy, she just doesn't want to live in a house thats worse than what she's living in. He tells her not to worry and says he'd like to introduce her to his parents.

The next day they're off to his parents place lol his car is a jalopy and so slow, she keeps nagging at him that they could have taken a taxi and wondering why he won't buy a new car. He says the car is an old friend and he can't dump it.

They park in front of a mansion and she tells him he can't block someone else's garage. He says that's his parents house (*gasp* OMG he's a chaebol) she's shocked. He takes her in and thank God his parents seem like nice people. She seems very nervous and insecure tho as she stares at how big the house is.

They are having dinner and his dad asks if they've set a wedding date. Kjy says no but he'd like to marry her soon. His mom asks if they're rushing because soo ah is pregnant lol Kjy says no it's cos her rent is about to expire and he wants to live with her. Mom says there's no need to rush if soo ah isn't pregnant so they can take time to plan the wedding. Kjy says he doesn't need a big wedding like his brothers and he can't afford it. Mom says the wedding must be of standard after all the guests are coming for the parents not for them. Kjy sighs and says then you two should do a vow renewal. Mom says don't you think so too soo ah, you get only one wedding in your life, it needs to be special, instead of an event hall let's book a hotel. We can help with finances, no need to worry about that. Kjy rolls his eyes. Dad tells mom to leave them alone and says they can do whatever type of wedding they want. Kjy says he'll go visit soo ah's parents before he sets a date. Lol soo ah gets nervous when he says that. Lol mom asks soo ah if she'd like to live in their house since they have lots of space? Kjy gets angry and mom says she's sure they don't have much savings so they can't get a good place in Seoul, they can live with them till they save enough to get a place. Either that or accept money. Kjy says we came to share our wedding news not beg. Dad says that's enough let's eat.


After the dinner, they leave his parents house. She says I had no idea you were from a rich family. He laughs and says I look so scruffy right, I hope you won't call off the wedding? Scared off by the overbearing family. She says no way. He says don't worry, we won't come here again, ignore what they said about the house and the wedding hall, they're just nagging, you bore it well. She says you too (his name is yuchan). He says so when do we see your parents? She gets nervous and says soon.

Back at her place, she continues her essay "for most of us the first place we live is where our parents live. It's where we first take root. Even a master architect can't change this house of the past". She remembers yuchan showing her around his parents house, they had a whole room just for his dad's record player and albums. She laughs and says I liked him for being carefree even though he was poor like me, I can't believe I'm jealous of my boyfriend's family.

She goes to her parents house and yes it's a tiny flat lol her dad even picks up furniture and stuff thrown out by other people to decorate their home. Her mom asks if they've picked a date? Dad asks what yuchan's dad does. Soo ah says he's a chaebol. Her parents are shocked. Her mom asks if his family won't object since they are poor. Her mom is a housekeeper and soo ah is embarrassed about it. She tells her mom to escort her to buy new furniture since yuchan is coming to visit them (me: aigoo wasting money you don't have). Her mom tries to tell her to save her money instead of buying new furniture but soo ah says she needs it so she won't be embarrassed when yuchan visits.

Lol she buys a new sofa but her dad refuses to throw away their old raggedy sofa saying he's attached to it so they have to fit in the old and new sofa in the already cramped apartment. Soo ah is frustrated.

She and yuchan are having dinner at a restaurant with her parents. Apparently the workplace yuchan has been camping in is actually his own small business that he started. Soo ah's mom is worried that he's not living healthy enough but he assured her he's been living well. He met soo ah when he employed her firm to help renovate the old building he bought to run the store and she did such a great job in making the place habitable. Her dad tries to be all tough dad but yuchan easily wins him over cos he's just such a sweet boy. After dinner yuchan promises to visit their home next time and soo ah starts panicking again (*sigh*).

Yuchan is helping soo ah pack up her stuff from her house, she keeps whining about how all the good houses are expensive, how she'd rather live with her in laws cos even if she works for all of her life she would never be able to afford a house like the one he grew up in. Yuchan says they can get a cheap place and fix it up really pretty but she still continues to grumble. He starts to get tired of her her whining and says he'll come back to pick her furniture, she says she's throwing it away. He asks why cos they're still good. She says she wants to start afresh in a new house with new furniture. He asks "what does marriage mean to you?" she asks what? He says did you expect a mansion to appear out of thin air, why do you want to erase your life before marriage. He apologizes for getting mad at her and she says she's not angry. Apparently he won't be around for a while as he's going on a business trip. Soo ah moves into her parents house for the time being and she has a horrible experience all through. The shower doesn't work, water heater is broken, she complains every day.

Poor LMH

She continues working on putting juyeon's house together. Juyeon thanks her and says she has to go visit her mom abroad so she won't be there to receive the furniture soo ah ordered for her. Soo ah says she'll help her receive it. Juyeon asks if soo ah can help her get the item on her profile picture, uh uh it's the record player soo ah has been drooling over, when she took the pictures she set it as her profile Pic. Soo ah doesn't like the request. Juyeon says her fiancé likes those kind of stuff and he fell for it when he saw her profile picture. Soo ah says I already deposited some money so I can buy it when I get married, I'm sorry I'll look for something similar for you. Juyeon says there's no problem. Lol soo ah quickly changes her profile picture.

Later that evening juyeon and her fiancé treat soo ah and the rest of their high school friends to dinner. Juyeon raves about how soo ah is doing such a good job with designing and furnishing their house. She encourages their friends to hire soo ah if they ever need any help. Juyeon's fiancé asks soo ah to please get them that record player, juyeon joins in saying he has tried to look for similar ones but they don't feel the same. He says it's like it was made for our house (me: OK now that's just rude)

Soo ah is on her way home and sadly says I wonder why I never get my share. She gets the record player for juyeon's house and says sadly to it "in my dreams, you were always at the center of my house but I admit this house suits you better". She receives a call from juyeon who tells her to please give her housekeeper the access card to the apartment and tell her to put her cat in another room cos her fiancé is allergic. Soo ah agrees and goes to open the door for the housekeeper and oops, soo ah's mom is the housekeeper.

Soo ah is very angry that her mom continues to do odd jobs and mom says there's no big deal since she's working to help raise money for soo ah's wedding expenses. Soo ah tells her mom to stop working for juyeon that she'll take care of the house and the cat. She receives a call from yuchan's mom and goes to meet her.

Yuchan's mom takes her shopping for utensils. She tells soo ah that she has always wanted a daughter to take shopping cos she only has boys at home. She tells her not to let yuchan know cos he'll only get angry. Soo ah laughs and says he's so stubborn. Yuchan's mom says I'm glad you know so if you need any help with the wedding, you let me know especially with the new house. You shouldn't lower your standards to find a house within your budget. Nowadays your house and neighborhood determine your social status. Soo ah is uncomfortable with the heavy prices of the things in the store but yuchan's mom doesn't even care. She buys a set of pots and says they're a gift for soo ah's mom. She asks soo ah to give the store her parents address so they can deliver the pots. Soo ah is flustered and says the gift isn't necessary but yuchan's mom doesn't take no for an answer. Soo ah remembers yuchan's mom saying your home and neighborhood determines your social status. She writes down juyeon's address (*face-palming*). Yuchan's mom says oh that's where your parents live? It's nearby.

They deliver the pot to juyeon's house. Juyeon has traveled and as soo ah is the person always at the house, even the people in charge of maintenance start to believe that soo ah is the owner of the house since juyeon even gave her permission to sign up for all the services necessary, like security and what not. Soo ah does nothing to correct their misunderstandings.

Before we know it, she starts living in juyeon's house, takes a few of her clothes there and even buys a record to enjoy on the record player lol she's enjoying the music when she hears someone come in, she panics but it's her mom who has come to feed the cat. The mom is shocked to see her there. Apparently she lied to her parents that she's been working late and sleeping in the office. Soo ah says she also came to feed the cat. They go to her parents house, her mom asks how her house hunt is going and soo ah says she's still on it. Her mom says you know I lived in a big house like that when I first came to Seoul to work as a maid and I was proud of it but I met your dad and we saved to buy this tiny apartment. It might be small but I remember feeling ah... This is my house. You'll find a house that gives you that kind of feeling soon. Soo ah continues her writing "a feeling that gives you "this is my house not I wish this was my house", will I ever find such a place?

She's at work when yuchan calls her, he says he's on his way from his business trip and he remembers that her mom said she likes snow crabs. He's buying some so he wants to have dinner with her family at their house. Lol soo ah screams no so hard that even her colleagues are shocked. She tells him not to bother but he says they'll be family soon and he feels bad for meeting them at a restaurant, he asks her to send their address and ends the call. She runs home and tells her parents to change cos yuchan is having dinner with them. Her mom wants to start cleaning the house but soo ah says no need they'll meet him somewhere else. Her parents realizes what she means and are disappointed. Soo ah says she's sorry and she has no choice cos his mom already thinks they live at juyeon's place. Her dad says he won't join her, she begs them and they follow her taking things like family portraits with them to juyeon's house (me: Omo is the whole family insane?) soo ah arranges their slippers outside juyeon's door, puts their pictures on the wall, arranges pots and pans in the kitchen. Her dad just sits watching them.

Yuchan comes in with the snow crabs and says what a lovely house. Her dad is not comfortable, her mom is nervous, everyone seems off and poor yuchan thinks it's because they don't like him, he tries cracking lame jokes but no one is responding. Aigoo he tries to talk about work and apparently she also lied about her dad's occupation *sigh*. Her dad is pretty disappointed but he plays along to cover up for soo ah but the lies just keep getting bigger and bigger. He gets angry and tells soo ah if this is what it takes, call off the wedding. (me: ah finally, some sense) yuchan is shocked. Dad says excuse me and leaves the house. Yuchan asks did I say something wrong, I'll go apologize, he stands to go after her dad but soo ah stops him and says she'll go after him. They hear someone coming in and think he's come back but it's juyeon back from her trip (me: Jesus h christ). She's shocked and says aren't you the housekeeper? Soo ah what's going on? Yuchan finally gets it. Soo ah's mom starts rambling about how they had snow crabs and soo ah says she's my mom.

Soo ah and yuchan are outside. He says so you put on a show at someone's house and even dragged your parents into it, Do you think so little of me that I'd only like people based on where they live and what their parents do? She starts to tear up and says no. He screams then why would you do such a thing? She says I felt ashamed. It has nothing to do with you. You have no idea how the things you can't change with effort makes you feel so pathetic. He says then what do you know about me, Do you know why I left my parents house and what I'm struggling not to inherit from them? I thought we knew each other well but I'm no longer sure. He leaves.

She and her mom also leave and the security men are surprised to see that soo ah isn't a resident.

They get home. Soo ah cries and removes her ring. Her dad says I was never ashamed, the house that is my root, where I had and raised you, never once did I feel ashamed of it. I'm sorry for making you feel ashamed. Soo ah cries and we see a flashback of her as a child. Her dad was a gardener and kids used to call him stinky gardener (aigoo little devils), they also used to say soo ah's house stank like him. Back to the present, she hugs him and says I'm sorry.

The next day she goes to apologize to juyeon, she says I'm sorry, you trusted me with your house. Juyeon says marriage is a funny business, at first it meant living with someone I loved, that was all but it later became what people thought and felt about us. We bought your record player when we don't even know how to use it. Soo ah says if you want someone else to continue working on your house I can arrange it....juyeon says I called off the wedding. The truth is my mom didn't move abroad, she's very ill in the hospital but my in law's don't want a cancer patient at the wedding (me: what the hell?) so I'm calling it off. I'm tired of it, trying so hard. Soo ah it might be hard but could you help me renovate this house again? Not for a newlywed but for me to live with a patient.

Soo ah continues her writing "I was blinded by the neighborhood, the apartment and its cost, I didn't realize this palace was a house of sand for juyeon, fearing it's collapse, she built what became a house of loneliness".

A real estate agent calls her to see a house that is actually good enough for newlyweds and not too expensive. She tells him she doesn't need it anymore and asks him to show her houses suitable for singles.

He shows her an apartment, tells her it's suitable for singles but even 2 people can live there. She instantly falls in love with the house, it's small but she feels very comfortable in it. She remembers her mom telling her she'll find a place that makes her feel "ah this is my home". She smiles.

A few days later she buys the record player from juyeon and takes it to her parent's apartment. They are repainting and redecorating the house happily. She receives a call from yuchan, they settle their issue, he joins in repainting her parents house. She tells him she rented a small place to live alone, he asks her if she still wants to live with him and if he can move in with her, she says yes.

She continues her writing "houses are built for our sake but we often end up living for their sake. The double edged space that makes us laugh and cry. Still I'll keep living and loving till my Last days on earth in my house, my universe."

WHAT I LIKED
1. This was the first time I saw joo young play a feminine role, she had always played tough or tomboyish roles and I was worried about her being typecast (I still think she's being typecast) but it was refreshing to see her play a less boyish role, I mean she still had her short hair and her character was tough but at least she wore skirts and did things like meeting mother in law and stuff like that.

2. There wasn't really a villain in this story, everyone was sweet and actually had good intentions, even yuchan's mom.

3. The story. It's weirdly Relatable even though I've never been one to make up stories because I'm embarrassed or have low self esteem or a chaebol or whatever but I could still relate with the struggles of the young people in the drama

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE
1. I think the writer could have let us get a glimpse of yuchan's family life. Why would a chaebol choose to be so different from his family. I mean I can guess but I really wanted to see his own story too.

Lol you people should leave Lee min ho alone o. Is it because he's not showing you who his hot girlfriend is. For all we know he could be secretly married sef lol. With that being said if his costars are choosing to get married in 2022, here's hoping moon Chae won gets married to me and minhyuk in April. I promise we won't divorce her forever and ever.

So I'm guessing one of the characters in thirty nine is going to be a cancer patient. Aigoo I hope we are not going to end up crying sha. I'm sha excited to see Kim ji Hyun act a positive role lol, I've only seen her in witchy roles lol and she gets to have the noona romance sef. I hope she's all shades of cute so that people can stop casting her as evil woman
