Mary jane, obviously the nickname for weed, is the girl that spiderman wants the whole movie. Goblins are known for stealing, and the bad guy that spiderman has to fight is called the green goblin, because he wants to steal spiderman's green.

Also at the end when he finally kills the green goblin he gets m.j., but realizes that he has to many responsobilities to smoke weed all day so he has to break up with her, and still be friends with her (which means he still smokes just not as much as he wants to). And in the second one when he decides to just date her and stop being spiderman everyone gets really pissed at him because he doesnt fight the bad guys cause hes smoking all day.

Also when he is describing what its like to look into her eyes he describes getting high and mj's hair is red which could represent the fire when you are lighting a joint or whatever. There are also theories about Peter Parker being in a hallucinated state of being a super hero (Spidey) when he smokes a little Mary Jane..
