PUBLIC HANGING OF GAY IN IRAQ
There was no announcement, no fatwa, no openly
declared policy by a cleric or militia leader or
politician, but a wave of anti-gay hysteria hit the
country. An Iraqi TV station, with disapproving
commentary, showed a video of a group of
perhaps two dozen young men at a private dance
party, wiggling their hips like female belly dancers.
Terms like the third sex and puppies, a newly
coined slur, began to appear in hostile news
reports. Shia and Sunni clerics started to preach in
their Friday sermons about the evils of
homosexuality and “the people of Lot.” Police
officers stepped up their harassment of openly gay
men. Families and tribes cast out their gay
relatives. The bodies of gay men like Mazen and
Namir, often mutilated, began turning up on the
street. There is no way to verify the number of
tortured or harassed, but the best available
estimates place that figure in the thousands.
Hundreds of men are believed to have been killed.
Fadi called Ahmed. They spoke for an hour. They
were devastated by their friends’ deaths, of course.
They were also terrified. Under torture, Mazen and Namir may have given up their names.

Iraq is nothing compared to Iran which has executed more than 10,000 people accussed of homosexuality in 20 years.

Most of these countries in the Arab world have the worst disregard for Human rights. They violate their citizens on mere suspecting them for unknown and unidentified crimes.Though the Shariah law states they must be caught in the act to be arrested, but officers may sometimes charge men they perceive to be homosexual and make them go through forced gay testing(mostly anal probe) to justify their claims and they end up executing these helpless and defenceless men.

The hanging of gay men publicly is just one example of the other many violations that take place in these countries.Women rights are still often denied. The international body still has a lot to do in these countries to at least help them relax some of these laws and save human lives.

@Emmyk,you say nice, why not visit Iran and wait for one of the Revolutionary Guards to arrest you claiming you're gay, then you'll understand this has to be stopped.

I do not support killing men/people "suspected" of being homosexuals, but I do support banning, arresting and prosecuting them. Homosexuality is evil, true, but people shouldn't kill them just based on suspicion! Sending them to prison under solitary confinment could be best.

It's barbaric, outdated, flawed and unjust. Yet unsurprising, and that is the most unsettling fact.
