DETERMINED to be part of governance, the Chairman, Arewa Council of Chiefs (ACC) and the fourth Serikin Hausa of Lagos State, Alhaji Aminu Idris Yaro has appealed to Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) and members of the Action Congress (AC) in the state to okay a commissioner's for northerners residing in the state.

Making the appeal at a press conference in Lagos, the ACC chairman said that efforts towards achieving this were ongoing. He stressed that "with the population of the northerners in the state as well as their productivity, we deserve, at least one commissioner slot in the state cabinet or even more."

The ruler, who said his people were not in competition with other tribes residing in the state was however of the belief that "if Igbo can have a commissioner in the state, whatever qualifies them also qualifies Arewa people to also have a commissioner in the state."

While boasting of his people's numerical strength in the state, Yaro said "we gave AC over a million votes across board during the last election." stressing that "since lobbying is an effective tool of getting things done in politics, we will continue to work with the government to achieve whatever the Igbo have achieved in terms of recognition and appreciation of our worth in the state."

On Fashola's performance in his first year in office, Yaro noted that "even if you are blind, deaf and dumb, you will know that the guy has really performed" saying "he is no doubt God-sent successor to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who has laid a good foundation for good governance in the state."

OK now. With the population of Southerners and their productivity in some states like Sokoto, Kano and Kaduna, do we not at least deserve one commissioner slot in each of these state cabinets?

No Problem, if the Yorubas can have a slot in Kaduna too.

I thought the Igbo commisioner in Lagos state was appointed as a Lagosian and not as an Igbo commissioner?

The ruler, who said his people were not in competition with other tribes residing in the state was however of the belief that "if Igbo can have a commissioner in the state, whatever qualifies them also qualifies Arewa people to also have a commissioner in the state."

ie he was appointed on the basis of his skills and qualifications, as well as being the best person for the job, and not because the "Igbo want to have a commissioner in the state".

maybe I'm assuming wrong sha.

the fourth Serikin Hausa of Lagos State, Alhaji Aminu Idris Yaro has appealed to Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) and members of the Action Congress (AC) in the state to okay a commissioner for northerners residing in the state.

in fact, I'm totally lost here.

Are we talking about the Civil Service or a community chieftain appointment?

Is there a ministry for tribal/northern/eastern/western affairs or something? That needs a commissioner?

the Serikin should rephrase abeg.

I say amen to that. Hausa commissioner in Lagos, Yoruba commissioner in Sokoto, Igbo commissioner in Kano, Fulani commissioner in Imo, Efik commisioner in Borno. A united Nigeria!
