In conventional medicine antibiotics are used to refer to antibacterials.
Just like chemotherapy refers to cancer drugs.
They are not usually used literally.

Yea cyclopirox is a topical preparation, I believe a parenteral or oral formulation will be made or still they can alter the chemical structure and do further analysis to extract a more resistant preparation. But for now they've done a good job and have opened the eyes of many other scientist worldwide.
However the job is half done for now and my prayer is it's success through the clinical phase in-vivo.

Metronidazole is not an antifungal drug. Its more of antiprotozoan/antibacterial. Furthermore, I can't really think of any viral infection metronidazole treats.

I know that. the point i'm making is that a drug can belong to more than one class, just as Metronidazole is both an anti-amoebicidal and anti-bacterial

Thanks for the explanation. I suppose cyclopirox cannot be used as a microbicide for Pre-exposure prophylaxis or even in post exposure prophylaxis since it's mechanism of action is necessarily intracellur - blocking viral gene expression and inhibition of mitochondrial function in an infected cell? Which means , for it to be useful we must wait for the approval for systemic application.
