Orie-Irri raps DESOPADEC over Electricity Transformer

By Nelson Egware

ORIE Community in Isoko South Local Government is currently engaged in a crisis of confidence with the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission DESOPADEC over an 11 300kVA Transformer donated to the community by the agency.

It will be recalled that DESOPADEC carried out an energy need assessment of the Community and it was concluded that an 11 300kVA transformer is suitable for the community based on the distribution lines in the area.

Trouble started when the Contractor brought the transformer along with another transformer meant for distribution to Uro Community. On sighting a 33 300kVA transformer in the vehicle, the community insisted that they will not accept an 11 300kVA transformer.

According to impeccable sources at DESOPADEC, all entreaties and appeals to the community fell on deaf ears. The reporter put a call to the President General of the Community but could not get any reasonable response from him.

As at the time of filing in this report, the 33 300kVA transformer meant for Uro Community is still being held at Orie while the other 11 300kVA transformer meant for Orie is currently at the Uro Community Town Hall.
