Eastern European immigrants should not be blamed for seeking jobs in UK factories when not enough young people in Britain are fully capable of doing the same jobs, David Cameron has said.
The prime minister said half the workforce in some
factories came from Poland, Lithuania or Latvia, as
people from those countries wanted to work and were
well qualified.
During a trip to a Mini plant in Oxford on Monday, he
said Britain's response should be to improve the
education system "so we are producing young people
out of our schools and colleges who are fully capable of doing those jobs".
"You can go to factories in our country where half the
people come from Poland, Lithuania or Latvia,"
Cameron said. "You can't blame them – they want to
work, they see the jobs, they come over and they do
them.
"But as a country what we ought to be saying is: 'No,
let's get our education system right so we are
producing young people out of our schools and colleges
who are fully capable of doing those jobs.'"
He said the key was linking education, welfare reform
and immigration, but there was a risk that some
under-qualified young people would be left behind in
the recovery.
"Crack those three problems together and we can really
get an economy that generates wealth for our people," he said.
"The danger for a country like Britain is, yes, you see
the economy recover, yes, you see jobs coming, but you
leave behind people who have not got the right
qualifications from school. I don't want that to happen
in our country."

I thought the dearth of skilled manpower is only peculiar to Nigeria, never knew Britain suffer same. So where does this hype about their education system from?
