A bill to make housing affordable for low income earners has suffered a setback in the senate.

While considering a report of the Senate Committee on Lands and Housing on the bill, the lawmakers queried the source of funding for the proposed scheme and the management of the scheme.

Presenting the report, the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Bukar Ibrahim, said the scheme was aimed at creating “affordable houses” for the low income earners.

Ibrahim also stated that the funds for the implementation of the scheme would be drawn from unclaimed gratuities, unclaimed dividends, excess crude account and ecological fund.

Some senators however observed that the source of funding for the proposed Social Housing Scheme was not sustainable. They also observed that the agency that would manage the funds and implement the scheme for effective execution was not specified.

The bill was returned to the committee for further legislative work, and no date was given to the committee to conclude their work.

Your peers are working hard and building their own homes and now someone should be killed because you're too lazy and vision less to achieve the common task of building a home?

Social housing has been a failure in every country that tries it. The residents start killing each other and business run away from any place with a concentration of poor people that can't afford property. Bettering Nigeria isn't synonymous with feeding desperate leeches and lazy achievement deprived beggars like you people.

I see no reason how building of locust houses for the people with their money is bad.

Tall buildings in which the rooms are affordable enough, bungalows etc. are feasible.
I just can't imagine how and why this senate demons always fight to prevent good things from happening to the citizens.

Late Yar'adua's move to pay off graduands with 400k plus was kicked against by this same senate.

The bill to pay unemployed graduates was thrown out by this same senate.

Plus a host of others, including this one.

F00ls.

Anyone who expects government †̥☺ provide social Housing may wait for ever.
Apart from the fact that greedy people bereft of pragmatic ideas man the decision-making circles. Truth remains that governments world over are crippling under debt burdens.
Best practice is: Selfless Private sector driven housing solutions backed by well meaning Governments is most sustainable and affordable!
