When your book is enrolled in KDP select, you have the chance of getting paid for borrows on KU/KOLL which is usually about $2 each. You also have the chance of promoting it again when it stops getting sales (if you still have promotion days left). The only reason for removing your books from KDP select is if you want to publish it on alternative platforms like Smashwords.
Thanks. Makes sense not to use all your promotion days at once. Interestingly, I just discovered I didn't promote my first kindle book, which I wrote last year November. I wondered why it even sold a copy then; I'm seeing a good number of download now that I'm promoting it for the first time. Its good that this thread didn't fade off. Thanks to you all who kept it alive.

Kindle publishing is a great way to make cool passive income...

A friend of mine in the US introduced me to it and showed me the awesome set-and-forget passive profits it can generate and now its right here on nairaland...though the income isnt that wowy but it adds up pretty quick to earn you a steady monthly income...my friend specialises in writing adventure and nature stories for kids,he has about 120 kindle books in amazon store some were outsourced some written by him...he makes a whooping $1500 every month profit from all the kindle ebooks all together.

one thing though keyword research is very crucial to its success plus some social media ads...ie facebook ads

To further improve sales my friend uses a special wordpress theme (bookmaxed) on his wordpress sales website

If you are the lazy type this aint going to work for you except you plan to outsource the whole process and thats going to drive massive holes in to your pocket...just be prepared to work just for a while and when you're done it goes autopilot

I'm thinking on adding this income stream to my pack make me some passive income with it...it certainly works! :-)

Hello. I had thought you had a number of books already. I think you are just starting out n just looking for someone to reassure you. There you have it, it sure is. I know of someone who makes more than $8000 monthly from kindle. Just keep at it, learn from your mistakes, learn from.others and keep publishing no matter what.

How come many people seem to know someone who made xxxx amount of money. The question still remains how many people in nigeria consistently make $500 or more every month. Mean while waiting for 60 days or even more before cashing out is way too long.

Just my humble OPINION.

Oga, why are you quoting me? How am i supposed to answer that question exactly? "How come many people know someone who made XXXX amount of money"? How come i know someone who did? Is that a question? Oh dear

Well, only people who get up and just do it earn XXXX monthly from kindle. Maybe you dont know anybody who did. When you have about 200 ebooks on kindle and you are not making XXXX, then we can start saying something is wrong somewhere. Opinions are not facts my friend. Business decisions should be made on facts not opinions.

Ask mk82 about the car he bought with kindle money. As at then i dont believe he had up to 50 books on kindle, but he researched properly. When I say 200 books, i mean books that get the odd download a day, not those in super trending niches. If you have been reading this thread, you will find that you only wait 60 days once, after that your payment is due monthly.

Get quick rich, no patience to wait for your seed to grow and yield is really stopping a lot of Nigerian youths from reaching their potentials. You ask "how many Nigerians make $500 consistently monthly". You should be asking:

How many Nigerians recognize kindle as a business opportunity?
How many Nigerians are patient enough to churn out books even when sales are nothing but pittance at the start?
How many Nigerians have over 200 books on Kindle?
How many Nigerians can keep going after sweating it out, publishing ten books and yet they are not wildly successful?
How many Nigerians read like one hour a day on how to be better at kindle publishing?
How many reinvest their earnings into a system that will churn out more books than they can themselves monthly?
How many develop a business out of it?

Kindle is a game of numbers, patience and hard work. I'd take it any day!

P.S: 200 Books that sell ONLY 10 each a month at 2.99 dollars will give 5980 dollars (including tax).

Is that not XXXX? The next thing you will say is how will a human being write 200 books. Where there is a will, there is a way. Some people have thousands of books on kindle. I'd rather do this than push paper for somebody else for a living. I love the fact that you get about this figure every month after doing the work just once. Residual income. That's why i am doing this!

For those of you that have started working on books, ensure your research is properly done. Don't just 'think up' a topic to write a book on. Make sure you research and find a keyword that is selling on Amazon kindle. Even if the niche is popular on Google or clickbank, Amazon is the ultimate test.
Another tip: Avoid niches where all d bestselling books are by celebrity authors.

Hi MK82.
Thanks for the great work you've being doing. How do you know if there are celebrity authors in a niche you wanna go into? what exactly qualifies an individual to be regarded as a celebrity author?

Seasons greetings to all.
Knowing celebrity authors is simple. Check the book description and editorial review. Celebrity authors usually have a popular website, radio/TV show or newspaper/ magazine column.
Their books are not selling just because of what they wrote, the sales are influenced by their personality and popularity.

Merry Christmas house!

I pray this coming year will be a better year for us all!

Hurray! I am finally in possession of my Payoneer master card, I used the paid shipping option through DHL. No going back on Amazon KDP.

Please house, I'm looking forward to outsourcing my writing job because I'll be having a little time for that as it stands now, and I don't want to stop. Imagine having 50 ebooks published. All I want to do now is to keep reinvesting my income form KDP until I have a good number of ebooks on Amazon KDP. Please I need suggestions on how/where to get quality content at minimal rate.

Also, Amazon sent me a message to update my tax and address information before 31st, since my details have not changed since the last time, will there be any need? I would have choose to ignore, but I want to know from the house the right thing to do. This is my little investment, I don't want any issue with my account.

OP MK82, my Boss, My Leader, My Mentor, may God continue to bless you more abundantly and everyone who has contributed to making this thread a success.

Thanks house!

Good day @mk82. When does amazon pay authors their royalties for books borrowed from kdp select? What i have seen on my part are royalties from books paid for.

For outsourcing at minimal cost, go to odesk.com. You will get writers for small books from $30 upwards. However be ready to do serious proofreading and editing to fine tune the book.
Concerning the tax issue, I think the letter is sent to every Kdp publisher. It is a compulsory formality whether your details have changed or not. On 31st, Dec, login to your account, click on your name, click on "update tax information" then go through the process and save.

Sales and borrows are paid at the same time. Click on Prior Months' Royalties to download the excel sheet of that month. Anywhere you see KU/KOLL, follow the line to the right. You will see the number of units borrowed and the amount paid.

@Mk82, thanks so much.

I found something I think would be interesting during the course of my research yesterday, but I'm still skeptical about it. It's PUBLISHING PUBLIC DOMAIN CONTENT.
Here's what Amazon has to say about it

"the public domain and may refuse public domain content already available through our Program or available through other retail sites.

In order to provide a better customer buying experience, our policy is to not publish undifferentiated versions of public domain titles where a free version is available in our store. We consider works to be differentiated when one or more of the following criteria are met:

• (Translated) - A unique translation
• (Annotated) - Contains annotations (unique, hand-crafted additional content including study guides, literary critiques, detailed biographies, or detailed historical context)
• (Illustrated) - Includes 10 or more unique illustrations relevant to the book

Books that meet this criteria must include (Translated), (Annotated), or (Illustrated) in the title field".

Have you had any experience with this? Please what's your take on it?

Compliments of the season to everyone,
been following this thread for a while and I really appreciate
the nigerian spirit in the forum.

Based on all i learnt,
i finally published a book on kindle 'ýeeeeeee'
the status on the book presently is :live-updates publishing.
please , what does that mean because i actually want to enroll it for free promotion.
cover of the book is attached

thank you and God bless you all in this forum.

@skillmyman, congratz for taking action. I can assure you that you are going to start seeing results soon. The cover of your book looks great, but meanwhile wait for the gurus in the house for critics.

The status of you book means that it is in the publishing process. You will receive an update once the publishing is done and your book is now live.
All the best!

I love the cover art.
It is clean and looks professional.

You should create an author page.
Try adding Dr. at your pen name. It does wonders to sales!

I felt you gave too much info away in the description.
In the sense that the customer already knows what the book (your selling point) is about before buying.

Customers buy HOW TO- book to find out How to do sth. If you give that away before they buy, you may not have so many sales as you wish.

If I were you, I would simply mention the benefits the readers will stand to gain by reading the book and I will never mention HOW the book will help them acheive that.

In other words, mention the WHAT and market the HOW.

They will buy the book to find out HOW.

Get my drift?
Happy Publishing!
