ASUU Strike Update: Union Rejects FG’s N200bn offer, ASUU Strike to continue? The report reaching us is that the Academic Staff Union Of Universities, (ASUU), has rejected the offer of N200 billion by the Federal Government (FG). As at the time of writing this report, we are heard to have the full details… But we are definitely sure the ASUU strike has not been called of yet as FG are not ready to honour the 2009 agreement. We are all praying that the President should implement the plan ‘B’ as soon as possible. But what if ASUU have their own plan ‘C’? Here are some interested news on ASUU: * ASUU and FG Meeting Ends, President Disagrees, Says Strike Must End Today!! * I Pray ASUU Strike Ends today, Our Children Has Suffered Enough – President Jonathan * ASUU Warns FG Against Forced Re- Opening Of Universities Today! The Federal Government are doing everything to make this ASUU strike to be called off, so they offered N130 to the protesting lecturers in order to resolve the impasse; of course, the Union rejected the offer, and then they increased it to N150 billion, which ASUU rejected again. The Academic Staff Union Of Universities insist that the FG must implement the 2009 agreement or the ASUU Strike will continue until 2014… The union asserted that going by the 2009 agreement, the federal government is supposed to have injected N500 billion by the end of 2013, with another N500 billion by 2014. Nassarawa State University Keffi (NSUK) branch chairman of the Union, Dr. Thephilus Lagithe stated that the actual amount in the 2009 agreement was N1.3 trillion to be paid over a period of four(4) years. Dr. Thephilus Lagithe said and i quote, “Recently, they called us and said instead of the 100 billion, we are giving you N150 and recently they said from that 150 billion, they are going to make it 200 billion. But these are just promises. “last year, they were supposed to inject N100 billion and this year N400 billion. Then next year, N500 billion. But from all indication, the government is not even serious about injecting money into the education sector.” un-quote. According to the report, we were told that the N100 billion which the government had earlier promised to give the union was supposed to have been paid in the year 2012. It said if the strike continues to 2014, the money will then rise to N900 billion. (if FG can’t pay 200 billion, will they be able to pay N900 billion? And don’t forget 2014 is just a few days away.) Meanwhile on AIT the ASUU/FG Meeting is still on at 12:16am. Information coming from AIT just now 12:16 am reports that the meeting between ASUU and the Federal Government is currently ongoing. AIT (station) was able to confirm this report from a correspondence who is present at the venue to monitor the proceedings. More news on ASUU will be made available here as they unfold 1 Like |

FG’S: Offer is full of expectations and hope After thirteen hours of negotiations, the President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Dr. Nasir Isa Fagge on tuesday morning was not forthcoming with the new Federal Government’s offer as he insisted that his members have the final say on the issue. Speaking with State House correspondents, he said that the meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan discussed how to tackle the problem of University education system in the country. He said: “Well we have had lengthy meeting with Mr. President, rubbing minds on how best to address the problem of University education in this country.” “And we now have a message from Mr. President we are going to take to our members. And we are expecting that our members will respond appropriately to the message of Mr. President.” On whether the lecturers are going back to the classroom, he said: “That is up to our members.” Asked what the message was, he said: “I can’t tell you. Its not for you. It is for our members.” If impressed with the message, he said: “Don’t put words into my mouth. Our members will determine that.” Also speaking with journalists at the end of the meeting, the Minister of Labour Emeka Wogu said: “We made progress, the President of ASUU told you that they are going back with a message from the Federal Government back to their members. And the message is full of high expectations and hope.” On whether the strike will be called off, he said: “That is why the message is full of high expectations and hope. So our prayers is that they come back with positive outcome. They might not even come back to meet us, they might take decisions there that will meet your expectations.” “Nigerians should be patient for ASUU to finish their meetings and come out with a message to Nigerians.” Responding to whether the Federal Government made a fresh offer, her said: “Well, the offer we made are the offer they are taking in line with the 2009 agreement. The issues that led to the strike are issues contained in the 2009 agreement and we did not go beyond the agreement.” http://www.thenationonlineng.net/new/strike-ASUU- members-decide-fed-govts-fresh-offer/ (Quote) (Report) (Like) |
