ABUJA—Speaker of Taraba State, Haruna Tsokwa, who passed on Monday is to be buried on November 28.

A member of the deceased’s family, Pastor Yakubu Tsokwa, announced the date when the Acting Governor of the state, Alhaji Garba Umar, led other government functionaries to commiserate with the family over the untimely demise of the speaker.

After meeting and consoling the immediate family members of the deceased, Umar promised that the state government would foot the burial bills and take up the training of Tsokwa’s children from primary school to the university level.

Umar asked the people of the state to see the death of Tsokwa as an act of God, who is the giver of life.

The acting governor also promised to secure a job for the widow of the late speaker and take care of the immediate needs of the family.

Meanwhile, the Senator representing Taraba South at the National Assembly, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, has expressed shock over the sudden death of the speaker.

Bwacha said the death of the speaker had created a vacuum that would be difficult to fill.

It would be recalled that Tsokwa, slumped and died Monday. Tsokwa, who represented Takum State Constituency, led the team of lawmakers opposed to the resumption of work by ailing Governor Danbaba Suntai despite his plea, was said to have slumped in his house and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre.

His corpse was later removed from the FMC Jalingo to Taraba Specialist Hospital.

Before his untimely death, Tsokwa had come under attack by unknown gunmen on his way out of Taraba State.
One of his aides was killed in the attack even though Tsokwa escaped unhurt.

The late speaker was being expected to lead a delegation of the state Christian community to the yearly pilgrimage in Israel, before his demise.

Tsokwa was said to have been suffering from undisclosed some heart-related ailments.
