The management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has absolved itself from the alleged missing N500 billion Sure-P funds. The Corporation which described media reports linking it to the Sure-P budget as a comprehensive falsehood, noted that it has no connection whatsoever with the disbursement and appropriation of funds to the Sure-P Committee. The Acting Group General Manager, of NNPC. Tumini E. Green, said Sure-P budget was managed by a Committee made up of eminent Nigerians. She said, "NNPC is neither a member of the Sure-P Committee nor does it pay any money into the Sure-P account for any reason whatsoever. "The budget is the responsibility of other requisite statutory authority. The committee superintends over the disbursement and the execution of the various social welfare projects, "Green informed. She affirmed in a terse statement that the Corporation does not know how the funds are managed. The statement also added that the Honourable Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke who has the highest regards for the distinguished Senate Ad-Hoc Committee was unavoidably absent because she was away on some very important national assignment. Boko Haram victims deserve compensation – SERAP on November 08, 2013 / in News 5:30 am / Comments Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to “reverse the recently announced policy of zero compensation for victims of Boko Haram attacks.” The group said that the government should “within 14 days announce compensation and reparation policies for victims of attacks by Boko Haram, and begin a process of establishing mechanisms for the effective and transparent implementation of such policies.” The group, in the appeal by its Executive Director, Mr. Adetokunbo Mumuni, threatened to take “all necessary legal actions nationally and internationally to compel the government to fulfil its international human rights obligations and commitments,” if the government does not comply with its appeal. The group said: “In the wake of the devastation by Boko Haram, compensation and reparation programmes are absolutely essential to deliver justice to the victims of human rights abuses precipitated by the group. Paying compensation and reparation to victims of human rights abuses by Boko Haram is a matter of rights and not charity. Refusing or failing to pay adequate compensation and reparation to victims is to buy impunity for perpetrators.” continue reading: http://nintyforum.com/index.php/topic,87.0.html |
