The Bermuda Triangle Mystery : Fact Or Fallacy by Nobody: 11:12am On Nov 18, 2013
Writer Vincent Gaddis is credited with putting the
Bermuda Triangle on the map when he first used the
term "Bermuda Triangle" to describe the area from
South Florida to Bermuda to San Juan, Puerto Rico, and
back to South Florida in a 1964 magazine article.
It was a simple phrase that easily coined the location,
due to the imaginary line that gave it the easily
recognizable shape of a large triangle, and it had for
years been known as a mysterious vortex of sorts that
sucked up vessels and the people on them, making it a
watery grave for countless unsuspecting travelers that
some survivors referred to as the triangle of hell.
The Bermuda triangle is approximately a 1.5 million
square mile area located in the Atlantic Ocean where the
tips of the triangle lie in southern Florida, Bermuda, and
Puerto Rico. In just the past 30 years, more than 100
ships and planes, and 1,000 lives have been lost.
Many people once believed that aliens captured the
unfortunate souls of travelers visiting or passing over the
Bermuda Triangle, while others maintain that some
aberrant energy field hidden deep within the universe
creates a time warp of sorts that envelops anything
passing through it. With its reputation of swallowing
people up without a trace throughout the years, very few
people are willing to brave the watery death trap to
further explore possible explanations to its very
existence.
The Bermuda Triangle has also been referred to as the
"Devil's Triangle" simply because it appears to swallow
ships and aircraft by some inexplicable force that by
most accounts is stranger than life itself. Distress calls
and very little debris have been left behind to help
unravel the mystery that lies within the hidden mystery
of the Triangles perimeters.
Many experts who have studied the Bermuda Triangle in
depth claim that the missing ships and planes are still
there, only in a different dimension as a result of a
magnetic phenomenon that could have been set up by an
unidentified flying object. This theory is not met with a
great reception, and is quite often laughed at by experts
with an entirely different theory on the mystery of what
lays beneath the surface of the Bermuda Triangle.
Richard Winer, looking for facts on the Triangle for his
film documentary was especially interested in the strange
disappearance in 1945 of five Navy TBM Avengers with
14 pilots who flew from Ft. Lauderdale directly over the
triangle, and never returned. Other high profile cases
include the 13 man crew on the PBM Mariner that was
sent out to search for the Navy Avengers, who were also
lost in the watery grave of the Bermuda Triangle.
Allen Hartwell, an oceanographer with Normandeau
Associates states that a more practical theory and
common phenomenon in the region is that of the
waterspout. This is simply a tornado at sea that pulls
water from the ocean surface thousands of feet into the
sky. The waterspout could wreck almost anything that
comes within close proximity at the time of its
occurrence.
Strange incidents happening in the area of the Bermuda
Triangle date back as far as 1492 when Christopher
Columbus first documented strange occurrences in his
log book that concerned his compass when it apparently
went haywire while passing directly through the area we
now know as the Bermuda Triangle.
In March 1918, the USS Cyclops vanished without a
trace whose disappearance was easily summed up by
experts as a misfortune of the ship running out of fuel or
they even felt that a storm had possibly caused the vessel
to sink. No physical trace has ever been found, so the
sinking ship remains another victim and mystery of the
famous watery grave.
Another high profile disappearance was that of the SS
Marine Sulphur Queen carrying bulk molten sulfur
which sank in February of 1963. Although the wreck of
the civilian tanker has never been located, a life
preserver and other floating objects and artifacts were
eventually recovered, providing credence to the popular
belief in the mystery and the purported supernatural
qualities that the Bermuda Triangle has become known
for.
One significant factor with regard to missing vessels in
the Bermuda Triangle is the Gulf Stream. This strong
ocean current is extremely swift and turbulent and can
quickly erase evidence of any potential disaster. The
weather also played a major role with ships and aircraft
passing over the Bermuda Triangle simply due to a lack
of communication devices. Prior to the development of
telegraph, radio and radar, sailors did not know a storm
or hurricane was nearby until it appeared on the horizon,
and by then it was quite often too late.
The Coast Guard reports, US Navy reports, National
Archives, Records Administration, and Merchant Vessels
of the United States Registry has created a partial list of
the many missing vessels believed to be consumed by the
Bermuda Triangle. The missing boats and ships were all
cruising in what would be considered fair weather and
all of the vessels and people aboard them are thought to
be victims of the countless sea of lost ships and lives that
the Bermuda Triangle so easily swallows up without
mercy.
Missing Ships
Between 1780 and 1824, numerous ships were listed as
missing by the U.S. Navy. Included on the list are the
General Gates, Hornet, Insurgent, Pickering, Wasp,
Wildcat and Expervier, whose disappearance in 1815
delayed the closing of the War of 1812.
Storm warnings had already been hauled down before
the Cotopaxi sent her last enigmatic message. The ship
vanished without trace on December 1, 1925.
Ethel C, Callista III, and Evangeline are only a few
boats that vanished in 1960, 1961, and 1962. Ethel C left
Virginia, Callista III was en route to the Bahamas, and
Evangeline was off Florida.
Witchcraft is a classic mystery because she was deemed
unsinkable. Yet she vanished within 19 minutes between
her call to the Coast Guard and their arrival on scene in
1967.
The S.S. Poet was 11,000 tons of mystery, and she gone
without trace in 1980.
From 1999 through 2001 a host of missing, presumed
missing, and unknown circumstances involved the
disappearance of approximately 75 ships, schooners,
yachts, and fishing vessels that all had been in the area of
the Bermuda Triangle at the time that they vanished.
Missing Air Craft
Bizarre and mysterious disappearances that involve
aircraft are not uncommon when it involves the Bermuda
Triangle. Many have vanished while on radar or while
just about to touch down at runways. Others have
vanished over shallow water, and a few pilots have been
in radio communication claiming their equipment was
acting erratic, or that a weird object was harassing them.
At various times an unusual object was reported in the
aftermath of a disappearance, and on a few occasions a
minor piece of debris was found. In one particular case,
the evidence was unexplainable, but likened a magnetic
particle.
From 1942 through 2002 everything from privately
owned pipers to Navy aircraft has been reported missing.
The 1940's had 25 reported incidents alone, while the
1950's witnessed six missing aircrafts, and from 1987 to
2002, Pipers and Cessna seemed to be the victim of
choice with a total of seventeen reported missing aircraft
incidents flooding the airways.
Survivors of the Bermuda Triangle
Eyewitnesses and survivors of the Bermuda Triangle
cannot get the unusual flight or the bizarre cruise out of
their mind. The pilots have all claimed to have
encountered unexplained and severe jolts and pulses out
of nowhere that have sent big jumbos dashing to the
surface in precipitous dives. Survivors often claim that
clouds have come out of nowhere and caused compasses
to spin and engine rpm's to drop off. Objects and
luminous phenomena have sped past while electronic
equipment like cell phones, radios and navigation
equipment have ceased for no known reason.

Whenever something mysterious happens...no logical explanations...as in the case of the Bermuda Triangle...the finger points to Aliens. The Bermuda Triangle is a major air and sea route. Recently some pilot/satellite source recorded what was like a huge tornado that funneled deep into the ocean causing the water at the edge to rise way above the ocean level . Maybe if an aircraft or ship was present it would have been sucked down without warning and another mystery to add to the list. Guess this been happening all along but nobody ever knew.
