Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola


The 11 governors of the All Progressives Congress have congratulated the five governors of the Peoples Democratic Party who defected to the opposition party.

They described the defected governors as “courageous for taking the historic step of leaving the governing, albeit, fast crumbling PDP into the progressives fold.”

A statement signed by the 11 APC governors, including Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State on Monday night, said that their coming to the APC, “despite all manners of intimidation, harassment and persecution by the Federal Government and the PDP is worthy of commendation and is indicative of a strong personal principles and commitment to the progress of Nigeria.”

They said considering the nature of achievements recorded in their respective states, the defected governors had no business belonging to a party they described as a party that had no democratic traditions.

They said the PDP had no plan for Nigeria beyond wasting public resources and further impoverishing Nigerians in spite of unprecedented oil revenues.

The APC governors, under the aegis of Progressive Governors Forum, said they were welcoming the affected governors.

They said that by coming into the fold of the progressives, the G5 had opted to discard the politics of corruption, nepotism and deception in favour of transparent and accountable leadership that was being governed by the principles of progress, integrity and equity.

“Together, we shall forge stronger alliances by joining forces with other like-minded progressives to rescue Nigeria from imminent collapse,” they added.

We will be putting the new Governors through rigorous orientation about how to change the lives of their people through provision of basic amenities. APC will be singing into their ears about why it is not a good thing for Governors to steal from the people they ought to serve.

There is no development going on in any state in Nigeria except APC Governed States and two PDP governed states (Akwa-Ibom, Jigawa). As we move forward, we will be showing these five governors what dividends of democracy look like in South-west.
