investnow2013:so in essence the building of the distell factory is still suspended?which other factory secured a place there other than gsk and richborn? |
Re: A New Dawn Of Greater Economic Development Coming To Anambra-state! by tabletman1: 5:57pm On May 29, 2015 |
investnow2013:So you mean to say that the construction of distell brewery plant is abandoned? What about may&baker that is sited at ozubulu? Have they also abandoned the project because of land owners? So all the companies that was sited at ozubulu have stop work because of land owners? If ozubulu industrial estate can contain only 6-7 industries then its small and not as vast as you think because nkpor industrial layout has about that number of industries with more still under construction with some few warehouse. Obiano should increase more strength in building more industrial layout in Anambra and attracting more investors just like he is doing now because looking at Nigeria's economy, The future is not bright. |

tabletman1:There are issues with the last govt concerning these investments which the present govt is still trying to resolve!.Ozubulu industrial Area can contain over 100 small factories, but when we talk of Medium to Large industries it can contain at least 10 or more!.There are extensions to it also which can contain same number of larger industries!.There is another industrial Estate in Nza Ozubulu between Nnewi & Ozubulu called Unity Industrial Estate Where some industries from Nnewi are planning their extension. Obiano policy is to empower the local communities where any industry is to be sited instead of Few people! |

Obiano in Houston, Woos Investors for Anambra’s Oil and Gas Development Governor Willie Obiano In a move aimed at boosting investment in the oil and gas sector, one of the four pillars of economic development of the Governor Willie Obiano administration, efforts are being made to woo prospective investors participating in the ongoing Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston, United States of America. Obiano will also use the opportunity of the visit to hold discussions with prospective investors and technical partners of the proposed International Cargo Airport at Umueri. Speaking on the benefit of the conference, governor Obiano said: “OTC presents us with a viable platform to engage with industry experts and hold further talks with the aim of converting prospective investors to active partners in the development of our immense oil and gas deposits in Anambra. The fact that oil and gas ranks second amongst our four-Pillars of development gives you an idea about the importance we attach to the realisation of our set goals in the sector. Also, having been an active player in the sector, I am leveraging some of the contacts to ensure we get the best to come and join us in developing our hydrocarbon deposits in a viable and eco-friendly way.” “Anambra State is blessed with over one billion barrels and 30 trillion cubic feet of oil and gas, most of which are relatively unexploited. Our objective is to have a fully developed and self-sufficient oil and gas sector in Anambra State by 2018. We intend to achieve this through three broad areas of intervention, policy formulation and infrastructure development, private sector participation and community re-orientation,” Obiano emphasised. Programmes so far undertaken by the Obiano administration in support of the state’s Oil and Gas ambition include investment in infrastructure to wit: construction of access roads and bridges to the oil-fields in Aguleri and revalidation of license to build an international cargo airport in Umueri, among others. He stressed that the economic importance of the proposed airport is hinged on plans to pipe ATK (aviation fuel) from the Orient Petroleum Refinery in Aguleri to the Airport where a storage facility will be built for it, in order to serve as a major hub for the refuelling of international flights in West Africa. Obiano threw more light on the previous partnership the state had entered with UD Integrated Petroleum Production Development Company (UDIPPCO) and Falcon Corporation Limited towards investing in the development of the gas-to-power initiative in the State. Said he: “UDIPPCO will develop a central gas processing facility which will produce lean gas that will serve as feedstock for various gas utilisation projects including an 80mw power plant and subsequently, a urea/fertiliser plant, and a methanol plant. Similarly, Falcon Corporation plans to pipe Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) across three strategic locations in the state to facilitate the transportation of natural gas across the state.

Waste to Wealth The World Environment Day took place last June 5, and the Government of Anambra State marked it in a very special way. Unlike the usual annual ritual of conferences and seminars across the country, the State Ministry of Environment took journalists to a plastics recycling plant at Nkpor, Anambra State. A case of using the positive to correct the negative! Journalists were taken round the facility from the plastic wastes reception area, through the recycling processes, and finally to the finished goods section (see photographs). At the end of the tour, Arc. Mike Okonkwo, Commissioner for Environment (soon to move over to the Ministry of Housing, as a result of a recent cabinet reshuffle by Governor Willie Obiano), briefed the newsmen on plans by the Obiano administration to ensure a sustainable environment. He underscored the need for joint efforts towards achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): 13, 14, and 15 respectively. Arc. Okonkwo disclosed that although the worldwide theme for this year’s World Environment Day is “Beat Air Pollution”, Anambra State has adopted a sub-theme “Partnering for improved management of one-way packaging materials in the environment”. He pointed out that it was because of this sub-theme that the State Government decided to hold the briefing at the recycling plant owned by ZEC Industries Limited. The Commissioner disclosed that the Anambra State Government is challenged by the menace caused by one-way packaging materials in the environment and was therefore making efforts to partner with stakeholders with a view to remedying the negative impacts of such packaging materials on the environment. It was a “wow moment” for the journalists when Mr Chidi Ezeribe, Managing Director of ZEC Industries took the group round the facility. He explained that the firm has a capacity of recycling up to 8,600 tonnes of waste annually and planning to expand to over 20,000 tonnes very soon. The company turns plastic wastes into threads and hair products, including wigs, in addition to raw materials for the production of other products, including plastic chairs.
