Your (OP) attempts @ inciting tribal animosity and justification of theft have been quite obvious in d article.
The question = is oil theft also prevalent in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Venezuela, Angola?
Why is Nigeria the country that comes to the mind of illicit dealers when seeking to buy stolen oil?
The embarrasing height at which the national resource is being stolen is only because of bad leadership. PERIOD!

Did U bother to check the modalities in sharing the revenue gotten frm crude sales in them countries?Like someone said on here,we ant eliminate tribalism bt reduce it,go to the creeks as a yoruba or Igbo man to work as a ruffneck see if after a wk U dnt gt told to resign by local youths.

This article is from the aribisala kindergarten school of journalism.
MY TAKE:

ON OIL THEFT:
oil theft via breaking oil pipelines and bunkering started toward the tail end of IBB regime and picked up steam during the Abacha regime.
There were rumours back then of the oil majors pumping more oil than was declared.
The military machine dispensed of patronage to all section and regions .
Oil blocks were shared amongst all tribes including to sons and daughters of the Niger delta.
As usual,
They did not know what to do with it , not to talk of the handwork needed to develop it.
They instead sold it for a quick buck.
The corruption and incompetence starts from the NNPC and ends at the desk of the president.

ON DERIVATION /RESOURCE CONTROL.

That IBORI and ALAMS were at the forefront of resource control is an insult to those who fought that fight throughout their lives.
Ibori , alam ,GEJ are creatures of the Abacha regime.
These two are simply the sort of criminal who are produced in large numbers in that region, and who seem to dominate the politics there as well.
The likes of rewane, obong attah who fought obj to a standstill ,saro wiwa are the true heroes and it is not surprising that they have got more brains than all the laggards parading themselves as leaders .

ON AWOLOWO and REWANE

There is a unwillingness for some parts of country that you can be wealthy without stealing.Overtime, through the dint of hardwork, you can slowly build something .
Awolowo set up a newspaper before joining politics .
Do you think that it is beyond the capacity of the first set of educated people and probably the deepest nigerian thinker ever ,to make the right call regarding investment choices.
The likes of otudeko have been wealthy forever and he worked hard for his money. That is why he is not riding private jet like the criminals.
It is a known fact that you just do not squander truly earned income on frivolities.
It is not surprising that some people want to become overnight billionaires.
Subsidy scam
In the clannish thought the oil marketing business was dominated by the SW ,jonathan dumbo increased the number from 5 to over 100. The rest is history.

ON LAGOS.

Inspite of all the materials online, these people keep making this false claim.
Your freaking oil did not develop Lagos.
There are photos , documents and books to prove that.
Lagos was already built up by the yoruba and taxes paid by the yorubas.
The Lagos of then is better than the Lagos of now
The population of outsiders were insignificant until 1960.
Even after the 60's , the few outsiders were federal civil servants and they came to enjoy what has already been built.
THERE IS A BIGGER ARGUMENT THAT OIL MONEY ACTUALLY DESTROYED LAGOS AND THE SW AS A WHOLE BECAUSE OF THE CURRENT INVASION BY PEOPLE WHO ARE GENERALLY NOT ADDING ANYTHING POSITIVE TO THE SW.

ON OIL
MANY WISH THAT THE OIL WILL JUST DISAPPEAR LIKE SOMEONE POINTED EARLIER
IT IS DOCUMENTED FACT THAT COCOA MONEY ONCE FED NIGERIA,
IT IS ALSO TRUE THAT THE WESTERN REGION DID NOT MAKE MUCH NOISE ABOUT IT.
IT IS A KNOWN FACT THAT COCOA WAX RESPONSIBLE FOR MORE THAN 50% of THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT'S REVENUES BEFORE OIL.
WHEN YOU ADD revenues from oil palm, cereals, grains ,CORPORATE TAXES AND REVENUES FROM THE PORTS,YOU WILL UNDERSTAND WHERE WE ARE GOING.

It has come to the notice of all right thinking analyst that the struggle to free the country ,most especially the descendants of oduduwa, from the shackles of bondage ,has been reduced to

Oil blocks
Oil block sharing
Presidential largese
Positions sharing
National cake sharing .

Well summarized, Bloggernaija. Many people will be dazzled by the writer's ramblings, but the truth is that Nigeria harbors the world's worst oil theft problem and it has only gotten worse under the current regime. If this government can't even put a dent in such a huge drain on its resources, then they should have enough self-respect to resign immediately.

Nigeria lost an estimated $9 billion last year alone--possibly as much as $14 billion--to oil theft but gossip-mongers would rather slander Alfred Rewane and Ken Saro-Wiwa, who died fighting a dictator, and Obafemi Awolowo, who was jailed by corrupt political foes. People like James Ibori were implicated in the assasination of Rewane but this writer would prefer to praise them for their fictitious support of 'resource control'. When people like the writer either find themselves humiliated as in Ibori's current situation rotting in a foreign cell, or see the influence of corruption on their communities, they'll beg to tighten security and end this sick business. You can sue and sanction big oil companies for spills and environmental damage but militants and thieves will do far worse and will never pay a dime. More importantly, they will continue to build their houses in Lagos and Abuja, buy properties in Dubai and London, and build their schools in Coutonou and do nothing for the villages, towns and groups they claim to represent.

ITbomb: Unless Niger-Delta gets what is due to them , they will never cooperate to prevent oil theft, according to them , it is not theft , it is taking what belongs to them.
During the military rule, most of the official theft proceeds went to the Northern generals and emirs , so why shout now when the landlords are getting into the game.
You cannot handle security without the locals getting involved , so development is the key to ending the oil theft, and I mean direct development not allocation of money to some government MDAs to chop

WORD!!!
Wasn't Buhari the PTF(Petroleum Trust Fund) chairman during Abacha's regime? How come most of the funds disbursed were used majorly for large-scale projects (construction of advanced solid dual-carriage roads etc )in the North compared to the South-south were the resources were derived from?
It took just a few years for Abuja to be developed using oil and gas revenue from the SS (i heard Julius Berger were mainly in charge of most of the construction). It therefore makes sense that the same thing should be carried out in all regions of the South-South and parts of the South-East were the crude oil and gas are being exploited.
Jonathan Goodluck should step-up his game and bring succour and smiles to the suffering people of the Niger-Delta and Nigerians in general. I expected him to have been a bit radical in that direction but so far.........nothing.
Nothing seems to be going on especially in the Niger-Delta DURING HIS TENURE. Between Babangida and Abacha....Abuja was transformed into a major capital city with fantastic infrastructures.
Thank you OP (Harrison)

@obiagele....be objective and read the writeup, but this time with an open mind. Thanx
