Here on NL we are constantly bombarded by silly propaganda from Lagos state by their APC stooges but what is really disturbing is the some what elitist mentality and condescending view of the rest of Nigeria and Nigerians outside Lagos that Lagosians have adopted.

For some unknown reason Lagosians or rather those claiming to be Lagosians, are always quick to state how well developed Lagos is compared to other parts and boastfully beating their chicken chests but that is not the crux rather it is their view that Lagos was some how built by their own sweat. Disregarding the contributions by individual immigrant populations from a particular region, it is safe to say Lagos owes the FG more for development given that Lagos witnessed a lot of investment in infrastructure (at the detriment of other regions) when she was the then capital city. The height of development in Lagos coincided with the economic boom heralded from Oil and as such Lagos owes her development in terms of FG infrastructure from the exploited and neglected Oil regions.

Outside Federal developments, the other claim that they will come up with is that of Lagos Industrial base.
Originally most of these Industries located in Lagos were exporting and servicing local demands and given that Lagos as a state cannot boast of any natural resource or viable diversified aggro-sector we can conclude that most of these companies rely on other regions for their production inputs. Now that most of the companies are mere packaging outfits and the only reason for remaining in Lagos apart from the huge market is also as a result of proximity to the sea ports. These companies will later market and distribute their goods within the commonwealth to which Lagos get substantial tax earnings.

So when Fashola made that useless demand that the Nigerian Stock Exchange be renamed Lagos Stock Exchange, Mr. Fashola displayed his overestimation of Lagos contribution to the Nation's GDP other than as a prime coastal real estate.

So next time you APC he-goats support your myopic and desperate agenda to become semi-autonomous remember that Lagos owes Nigeria for what she is today and not the other way round.

@ OP: Lagos is ungrateful where it ignores its cosmopolitan nature which is an important strength. That said you are wrong to say Lagos has no natural resources. At first glance it has an arable land, and fish-rich waterways, and tourism spots.

Ungrateful?
Lagos was a pristine environment before the colonials and federal government brought their garbage.
The ports/natural harbour were there( where do you think the PORTUGESE landed in the 1600s)
Foriegn/local Trade was thriving.
It had an educated elite circle.
The colonial wanted a piece of the action that they moved their capital to Lagos to enjoy the sanity ,revenues and enlightenment of the yorubas.
This was at a time most easterners and some middlebelters were still clad in leaves and most houses elsewhere where made of palm fronds.
The people were taxed to build the core of Lagos(the roads ,the sandfilling, iju water works, carter bridge and others, the power plant which later became ECN)
The yorubas paid for the repatriation of yoruba and craftmen slaves from the Americas.
Those returnee yoruba slaves came with needed skills and contributed to the growth of Lagos .
Awolowo built all the industrial estates.
Most of the blue chip companies in Lagos are owned /significant holdings by the yorubas .
The southwest gets less than she contributes to the federal government.
From
Energy
Vat
Petroleum tax(tax you pay when you fill up.)
Corporate taxes
Licensing
Etc

What should you be grateful if nothing significant has been added other than being saddled with unneccesarily high/unneeded levels of migration and pollution.
Why should we be grateful ?

In terms of Industrial inputs.

Apart from you not knowing that Lagos accounts for 60-70% of Nigeria's industrial output from industrial estates created by the old Western regional government way before Nigeria as a country and still Nigerians's non oil economic engine.

Nigeria has Natural resources, but where are you today with your Natural resources...?

Japan has little or no Natural resources, but it's still the 3rd largest economy in the world. Not that you have any common sense to rationalize this and the fact that brains and human capacity sometimes trumps Natural resources...

ode. all your growth is tied to Nigeria. You offer nothing but the coast. The reason why your fathers alongside their abokis in power have refused to develop the eastern coastlines for maritime trade.

You are operating on a monopoly of imports and not exports!

Japan ke? Think Cotonou!

Akpabio is building a deep port. There is an existing port in Warri and Calabar but the Aboki controlled customs has restricted shipping of specific goods only to these ports.

Hyundai is building a sea port and a ship yard in Bayelsa.

It's just a matter of time before your Lagos crumbles grin grin grin grin grin

Hyundai Heavy Industries to to build $7 bln shipyard in Nigeria

Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday hailed South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries’ decision to build a multi-billion dollar shipyard that can employ 2,000 locals in Nigeria.
The completion of the facility next year will boost Nigeria’s economic development and create jobs for the local population, a statement from his office quoted Jonathan as saying at a meeting with the company’s president, Jai-Seong Lee.
More than 30 million Nigerians, or 20 percent of the population, are unemployed, according to recent official figures.
“Hyundai has a long-standing relationship with Nigeria. You have always played a key role in our economy, especially our oil industry. We appreciate what you have done and are elated by your latest investment,” the president said.
Lee said that on completion, the first phase of the Shipyard in Brass, in Jonathan’s Bayelsa home state, will provide employment for at least 2,000 Nigerians, the statement said.
South Korean firms are major players in oil, manufacturing and automobile industries in the west African nation.

Off course ABoki HANDS are in it just as they destroyed the rail sector and NNPC pipelines which led to fuel and goods being trucked.
Abokis own 99% of the trucks on the roads. The former governor of Sokoto Bafawara owns at least 2,000 trucks!

They are also not comfortable with the Eastern coastline. Why do you think Dangote is building a refinery in Ondo and not warri? In the event that Nigeria will divide the Northerners have vowed to have access to the sea and Lagos is that outlet. Ondo will become their new Niger-Delta but from what I understand about Ondo people and their politics they won't stand for that crap.

You can cry, yell and blame the whole world for your backwardness, but you are laying on your own poorly laid bed. Your forefathers refused to develop the east and your current leaders don't give a damn either.

Dangote took his refinery business to Olokola simply because the governments of Ogun and Ondo state cam up with a strong economic vision to make their states the Energy and industrial Capital of Africa by creating Olokola FTZ. Dangote analyzed Olokola and designated facilities like deep seaport and potential market for his products before taking his business to olokola.

Lagos came up with their deep seaport initiative and money is already flowing left and right to get it built, they are full speed ahead with what's set to be the best airport in West Africa, metro rail is on tap, cable car is coming, 10 line freeway is fast approaching and like I said, Ogun and Ondo came up with their own OKFTZ and they've secured over $8 billion investment and the largest refinery in Africa already. Are they sitting around and waiting for the FG to do anything for them? No, only you lazy and incompetent people do..

The question is, what vision, moves or ideas do you and your leaders have to offer or even have on the table for people like Dangote to consider? Nothing, I mean nothing. All you have is hate, bitterness and anger.

Ordinary bridge you can not build even after crying for 30 long years, ordinary airport you can not build, but you OK with a repainted landing strip...while Osun is building one from scratch.

There was a time when every region in Nigeria controlled it's own destiny and developments and while the west was building industrial estates, institutions, firsts in Nigeria and Africa, what exactly did your forefathers did in the east? Nothing. So who was responsible for that? Nigeria that wasn't a country back then? Yoruba people or your so called Aboki?

You want what other people have, but you are too physically and mentally lazy to come up with any idea, vision or work for it, you instead blame other people for your own lazy, backward and incompetent ways, you also saddle yourselves with lazy, incompetent and zero visionary leaders. You even deny yourselves good leaders like you just did in Anambra all because of tribalism.

What a shame...
