Just finished watching The Wind Rises yesterday night. Absolute beauty but that's just the norm for prime Ghibli. Funny how I was coming to put you and Abduleez on only to meet your endorsement.
Have you seen Only Yesterday?

I'm prepared for the perversion of history in The Woman King. Just hoping the movie, in of itself, is ok, at least.

The Wind Rises is top tier content.
Got it on my watchlist for some time now.

Just added Ponyo few days ago when reading up on Studio Ghibli history.

Only Yesterday is another great character story. Should be right up your alley.

Also, add Howl's Moving Castle if you haven't seen it yet.
Been doing a Ghibli watch fest of their movie library, both rewatches and first times. Will put you onto any other top tier titles.

THE WOMAN KING....10/10

*Minor spoilers ahead

FIRST, I know nothing about history so I can't judge based on historical accuracy
Anyway, Viola Davis didn't disappoint

I went into it with fear it might be another feminist crap with shîtty characters and story used only for females to vent out frustration and anger at men... Full of useless male characters...

But instead what I got was proper characters, proper plot, emotionally captivating...

The writers of Rings of Power should learn from it how to write good female characters, not the useless Galadriel that they wrote

One of my favorite characters was the king. I loved how he was smart and brave...
Most feminist movies usually make such a male character useless and a coward.
But this king was actually bold, even though he wasn't a warrior, he was willing to stand against his oppressors...
And he was even the one who bestowed the title of the Woman King on Viola Davis...

Feminists expecting another feminist crap will be shedding tears

Great movie ...
One of the best I've seen this year

Enola holmes 2. 6.5/10

Fair enough. I preferred it to the first part. I slept off though and woke up to complete it. The plot was enough to keep me going

The Woman King (2022) 7.5/10

It's definitely a good movie. And one that really could've been done without the revisionist history aspect of it.
Plot was good. Acting was decent all around. Just as the snippet of Boyega I saw promised, he delivered an entertaining performance. Viola Davis did a good job in the lead and testament to Thuso Mbedu's talent, she was able to hold her own alongside a star of Davis' calibre. Sheila Atim and Lashana Lynch shone in their performances as well everytime they were on screen.

Battle and fight scenes were well scripted and choreographed, especially the final fight between Nanisca and Oba.

Strongest aspect would be the music. I don't know how much of it is culturally authentic. Will only put money on the war song the night before the big battle. The blood oath song had too much black church choir vibes in it. Cultural authenticity aside, the music was definitely a blessing to the ears.

There's quite some stuff to learn here and be infused into the making of African epic historical movies.

Anyways, Thuso Mbedu, ladies and gentlemen. I don't know how sis be looking this cute at 30 but I want her regimen for my future wife.

The Woman King is 10/10.
I was worried I was going to be hearing American accents flying around in an African movie. They got the right set of actors with the correct African accents to execute the movie. Thumbs up to the director for picking Jimmy Odukoya as Oba. I felt John Boyega over did the Nigerian accent thing maybe because he is already used to the British accent but he still sounded very Nigerian. A movie about women without the need to put men down. I really enjoyed the movie today at the cinema. Congratulations to Jimmy Odukoya, from being unrecognized in Nollywood to being a Hollywood actor.

Brotherhood is also a lovely movie, the director made it 10/10. Everybody at the cinema clapped at the end of the movie. Niaja movie directors not playing anymore.
