THE Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mike Okiro, at the weekend, urged all state Commissioners of Police to ensure that they put pressure on their various state governors to ensure that the governors donate land and issue Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) to the force to enable them build houses for serving policemen.

The order was issued by Okiro at the weekend, just as it was disclosed that one of the South-West state governors has donated a 200 hectare “evil forest” to the police to build houses for its men in the state.

Speaking at the monthly meeting of the Police management team with state Commissioners of Police, Okiro also disclosed that the Lagos State governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, recently gave him a gift of 3 hectares of land in Lekki which he said he rejected.

He however, directed the Lagos State Commissioner of Police to go back to the governor, accept the offer on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force, and convert it to the purpose of the housing scheme.

The police boss used the occasion to warn the police commissioners not to succumb to pressures by developers who are to build the houses on behalf of the police, to getting the C of Os issued in the name of such developer as the police would lose the right to such lands.

they should succumb to pressure abeg.

Development takes precedence over superstition. Some of those police barracks are nothing to write home about. They need better living quarters and better morale. If the police are happy, then other Nigerians will also be happy.

Housing developments beat slums anyday. Those evil forests need to go. undecided

the authorities can plant new forests elsewhere.
