The National Assembly will be holding plenary in
committee rooms for 12 months while the
chambers is closed due to renovations for the
period in view.
This was made known to journalists by the Minister
of FCT, Senator Bala Mohammed, who was giving a
brief after the Federal Executive Council (FEC)
meeting.
HE revealed that the FEC has approved the sum of
N40.2 billion for the third phase of the National
Assembly complex renovation, to create a more
comfortable environment for the law makers.
Senator Mohammed, who said that the contract is in
the plan of the FCT, added that it will contain a
library, budget office, banquet hall and radio
facilities.
He said there will also be “a complete rehabilitation
of the council chambers which will lead to the
closing of the National Assembly chambers for 12
months”.
“During the period, committee rooms will be used
for law making” he said.
Also approved is a proposal by the Minister of
Petroleum Resources, Dieziani Allison-Madueke, for
the establishment of a national laboratory for the
testing of petroleum products.
Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, who briefed
state house correspondents, said the test centre, to
be located in Owerri, the Imo state capital, is to
ensure that products imported in the country meet
the best standards.
Maku noted that the federal government rejects a
situation where huge sums of money is spent
abroad to carry out tests on petroleum products.

40 billion naira for a useless monument.

Putting it in perspective ,

That amount(250 million dollars) will build a 200MW power plant

renovation,
third phase only, 40.2billion naira. Only God knows the number of phases and the amount it will cost the nation.

They've forgotten to include hospital and mental rehab cos they need it.

Its better to stay silent and be thought a fool than to speak and confirm so. Did you miss the part where it stated that committee rooms will be used for plenary sessions? In which part of the world can you possibly shut down ur legistlative arm of govt. for a year?

@OP; wonder the special renovations that would gulp such millions in that house. More like thieves upgrading their den with stolen wares

Wonder what on earth they are renovating in that spacious & comfy chamber when Lagos-Ibadan roads & oda roads are still begging for attention. BTW if d chamber is not 'comfortable' why do senators sleep, they can add a bed space so they can bring their concubines for a quickee during their 'say yay or nay' sittings. I knw nxt yr, they wil approve money for new bullet proof cars and a raise in their salaries. What a greedy nation !!!

First of all Mr.Oyinbo, I didn't see "corruption" in. The post you quoted.
Secondly, unless you are one of those clueless and wicked politicians, you should know that budgeting such huge amount of money to make the already very comfortable legislators more comfortable when there are other areas in dire need of such funds is very very absurd.
Please learn to apply logic to your reasoning and stop being an Oyinbo wana be!

undecided Okay? Are the roofs leaking? Are moulds and spirogyra coming out of the floor? Do the walls have holes whereby 'dishonourable' outsiders can easily see what goes on in the chambers they call hallowed?

Granted, PDP has a body language that reeks of corruption, what of APC and others?
Re: National Assembly To Be Shut For Next 12 Months by 1MCN: 11:59am On Dec 12, 2013
We all heard Tambuwal talking about body language and supporting corruption just recently. I hope he remembers that Nigerians are aware that this 40.2B naira renovation budget was proposed, presented and approved by the sanctimonious NASS where he holds sway. And they want us to believe their own body language. Anyways, anything that demonizes our enemy is okay.

Well, liked that idea of laboratory for testing of petroleum products. Think Nigeria's moving forward in spite of the daunting challenges.
