After his shock exit, it has been rumoured that
Family Guy’s loveable talking dog will be
resurrected
After his death shocked Family Guy fans
worldwide, it looks like everyone’s favourite talking
dog Brian Griffin may be making a return to the
American animated sitcom.
The eloquent canine, who had been part of the show
since it began in 1999, met his grisly end in an
episode entitled Life of Brian, which aired in the
US on November 24. In an emotional parting scene,
the family baby, Stewie, failed to revive Brian with a
time machine when the dog was hit by a car.
Viewers watched as Stewie cried "You're not
supposed to lose your best friend at my age. You're
not supposed to lose him ever!" and gave Brian a
proper burial.
It is now rumoured that Brian, who is voiced by
series creator Seth MacFarlane, will return to
Fox’s comedy in an episode entitled Christmas Guy,
which will air for US audiences on December 15.
It is yet unclear how Brian will re-emerge from
doggie heaven, but Christmas Guy features the
beloved dog in its cast list and states that the plot
sees “Stewie devise a master plan to get the one and
only thing he wants for Christmas”. Fox has yet to
comment.
This news should please the 128, 512 fans who
signed a petition to resurrect Brian. Launched
by avid fan Aaron Thompson, the online petition
claimed that “Family Guy and Fox Broadcasting will
lose viewers if Brian is not brought back”.
It appeared that Brian’s death was final when the
show tweeted "RIP Brian. #familyguy" from its
official account on November 25, but it now seems
likely that the decision to kill off one of Family Guy’s
most popular characters may have been a publicity
stunt.
Family Guy has received 12 Emmy award
nominations. It is now in its 12th series in the US;
British viewers are catching up as the BBC only
broadcasts series 11, but a clip of Life of Brian
quickly went viral.
