President Olusegun Obasanjo is the first Nigerian president to prosecute his Secondary School friend, the man he appointed Inspector General of Police, a sitting Senate President, his serving Ministers, etc. But when some "idiots" want to talk on TV and Radio programmes, they will say Obasanjo do not have the moral right to write such a letter to President Goodluck Jonathan. How ridiculous!

Now President Jonathan's people have written to him complaining about the same lack of development:

"Whilst it takes the federal government the better part of the century to connect us by road, there exists a vast and expanding network of oil and gas pipelines across our territory connecting prolific oil wells to flow stations to export terminals and so on. In some 40 to 50 years of oil and gas production, the Nigerian government has in league with the oil companies virtually drilled the life out of our communities."

The people of the oil producing areas of Bayelsa State have written to President Goodluck Jonathan, and their complain is that he has not done anything to correct the wrongs of the past, making life difficult for them.

The elders therefore raised the alarm on the rising anger and impatience of the people especially the youths of the areas against multinational oil companies operating in their domain, and even the government.

In a letter which was signed by Emeritus Professor E. J. Alagoa and several others, they declared that in spite of over 50-years of old oil exploration and 10 percent of nation's oil and 15 percent gas production, the federal government had failed to deliver on road construction promised the Nembe communities till date.

The position of the elders which was read at the weekend, argued that the relationship between Nembe and the country had been one sided as the territory had only been good for economic exploration, extraction of their resources and an export terminal for extracted resources.

"What is the fate of these road projects? How do we get our various stakeholders to keep faith with their legal and social obligations to Nembe? Has SPDC tricked us and finally abandoned the Otuegila-Emago-Oluasiri-Nembe road? Is the Ogbia-Nembe road the only serious project NDDC intends to do for the entire Nembe communities with quota that we contribute to the commission which is roughly N300billion yearly budget? Will the federal government prove to us through concrete infrastructural evidence that it now cares about the people and territory of Nembe?"

If it's true, then,it's Very bad. A president that can ignore his hometown will certainly do nothing for his country then. Yar'adua's few time is far far better than Jonathan's years.

This is politics. As we approach 2015, many amorphous groups will emerge to Endorce, criticise, or lambast this president.
It's expected. Even in Bayelsa state, there are people who are loyal to deposed Governor Timipre sylva and who will not forgive mr Preident for snatching their meal ticket. It's normal in a democray.

But it will be the height of political m.asturbation to take this to mean that Bayelsa people are unhappy with Jonathan. Anybody who does so, does so at his or her own peril

This group may be right that the oil companies are not meeting up with their CSR obligations. Most of the road projects cited are state roads and you can't blame FG for not intervening. Bayelsa state receives huge allocations. They should put their State Govrrnment and LGA's to task. Jonathan cannot do everything for them. He is president of Nigeria, not Bayesa

It is not true. President Jonathan has done far more than what any other president did for Bayelsa and Nigeria in general.
In less than 3 years as president, GEJ has built a new university for his people. Intervened in Kolo-Nembe road and working seriously on the East-West road that traverses bAyelsa.

As we speak, FHA has started the construction of 2,000 housing units in Bayelsa. There is a new Law school campus in Yenagoa.
The Gbarain NIPP power plant is 90% completed and due for commissioning soon. A lot of federal projects are ongoing in Bayelsa.

The bolded part says it all that this group seeks to cause malice and create wrong impressions. NDDC is constructing the Ogbia-Nembe road yet the group is not satisfied and just wants the entire NDDC budget to be given to them. It is not hard to see the ill motives of these men.

This road was hitherto abandoned by successive govts and NDDC administrations. Obasanjo formed NDDC but never built this road.
It took a jonathan to construct the road yet the small Nembe group is crying foul. Let them come and carry the entire money in federation account. Mtcheeeew!

You forgot to add the new international Airport that FG has awarded in Bayelsa. By the time GEJ is through in 2019, Bayelsa will be a choice destination for oil/gas investors and businessmen.

Unknown to prof. Alagoa and his group, most of the problems they identified are challenges which Jonathan's new PIB that is presently awaiting passage by NASS seeks to address.

All those issues of gas infrastructure, ecological challenges arising from oil exploration, gas pipelines, infrastructural development of the Niger Delta region and ownership stakes of the oil have been seriously addressed in the PIB. Rather than write political letters which is of no end, they should rather mandate their respresentuves to mount pressure on both the senate and house of Reps to expedite action on PIB.

That Bill was well formulated and holds the key to the development of the oil bearing communities.

Don't mind them. Instead of them to agitate for passage of PIB, they will join General Obasanjo to write political letters. And coming at this time, their motives are highly suspect

Mr Op, we can't be deceived by Former President Obasanjo's antics. Every prosecution that OBJ did then had political undertones and was forgotten immediately after the political interest was served.

You mentioned the case of Senate President, Aldophus Wabara. Every political toddler knows that OBJ was unsettled by rumours that Wabara was interested in presidency hence desperate plans to exit him as President. After Wabara was removed, the case against him died a natural death.

That is OBJ for you. All his anti corruption trials were politically motivated.

Throughout the history of mankind, betrayal artists never end up in good notes socially. They have always died a miserable death or in a state of chilly penury.
