Identify Yourself

Run with proper ID, and carry a cell phone with emergency contacts taped to its back while using the road.

Pretend You’re Invisible

Safety Tips While Using The Road Don’t assume a driver sees you. In fact, imagine that a driver can’t see you, and behave accordingly.

Crossing At A Zebra Crossing

While using the zebra crossing, be watchful of reckless road users.

Do not cross until it is safe to cross the whole road.

Wait on the Pavement near the Edge and Wait for all traffic to stop before you start to cross.

After traffic has completely stopped from both sides, walk across on the black and white stripes.

Keep looking all round and listening because a driver might not have seen you.

Be careful when crossing cycles, rickshaws and carts. They might be traveling slowly but they do walk only on the pavement or footpath.

Check the direction in which the traffic is going.

Safety Tips While Using The Road Always remember Traffic will be flowing in more than one lane.

Wait Until It Is Safe

Wait patiently and let the traffic pass.

Cross when there is a safe gap and you are sure there is enough time

Don’t cross if you are not sure

Face traffic.

It’s easier to see, and react to, oncoming cars. And cars will see you more clearly too.

Beware of high-risk drivers.

Steer clear of potential problem areas like entrances to parking lots, bars, and restaurants, where there may be heavy traffic.

Mind Your Manners

Safety Tips While Using The Road At a stop sign or light, wait for the driver to wave you through—then acknowledge with your own polite wave. That acknowledgement will make the driver feel more inclined to do it again for the next walker or runner. Use hand signals (as you would on a bicycle) to show which way you plan to turn.
