The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has served a notice to German construction firm, Julius Berger Plc. to vacate all project sites in the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja, with effect from Monday, August, 11.

According to the group, in a statement posted on the internet, “in line with their policy of withdrawing from areas of harassment in Nigeria, this should not be a dificult directive after the incident of Friday, August 01, 2008 when one of its vehicles was burnt by an irate mob in Abuja.

“Had this same scenario occurred in the Niger Delta region, the army would have been called upon to open fire on the mob, then brand them as militants.

“MEND expects Julius Berger, a company which has benefited tremendously from the Niger Delta region where its crude oil was used as barter payment in most cases for the building of Abuja, to apply the same policy of leaving troubled areas as it did when it recently quit the Niger Delta region.”

MEND further warned that “failure to vacate its staff from construction sites and halt all on-going projects in the FCT, Abuja, on the deadline, will result in unprecedented deadly attacks on the expatriate staff of Julius Berger inside Abuja and other parts of the country until they comply.”

A bit excessive from MEND. . . . . . still, I guess they are starting to play Nigeria's game. . . . everybody in Nigeria is starting to see through this 'militant' tag that they use to label us. . . . . . .anyway, this is a threat that will never be carried out. . . . like a poster said: MEND should not cut off its head just because it has headache. . . . .  Any attack on mainland Nigeria will turn popular opinion against them. . . . and recently, more and more Nigerians have started to look favourably upon MEND, especially as they have the Northern Leaders all shaken up, talking abut their 'non-parasitic' nature. . . . . . this is the first time such allegations have been acknowledged openly by the North. . . . . . . and Southern Nigeria have never seen the North so rattled as they have now.

Is it just me, or is no one else glad that we can now say we have principled Nigerians in Nigeria.

MEND I commend you for sticking to your guns and standing for your principles.

ALUTA CONTINUA VICTORIA ACERTA.

LOL, what else can one do but laugh? So these "freedom fighters" have become bored of the Niger Delta and are now setting their sights on Abuja? Maybe that would wake the president up so that this continued child's play will stop. Whatever is going to happen had better happen quick so that the country can move on from this absurdity.
